Personal Achievement

The personal achievement I have chosen is my 3 rd place medal from the 2022 rugby PRC’s. PRC
stands for Provincial Regional Championships. It was held at UBC for three days at the beginning of
summer. The final score between us and the opposition, which was Vancouver West, was a close 19-
17. The team I was playing for was Fraser Valley West. I was immensely proud of myself since it was
my first major tournament and my first year of playing rugby. Trying out for the team and playing in
the tournament taught me all about discipline and hard work. If you believe in yourself and do your
absolute best, you can do anything. The PRC tournament also showed me how valuable teamwork
and leadership is. The tournament was most people's first time playing with most of the other
teammates. You need to invest your trust into your teammates and allow them to have trust in you
too. The one main trait I have improved upon playing with the team is discipline. First, there are try-
outs, and the coaches are very meticulous in who they choose for each position and who is starting.
Then you have the tournament which is three days long in immense heat. Everyone is pushed to
their limits and scouted for the BC rugby team. I was invited to play for them but unfortunately could
not go because of how expensive it was and the dates the games and practices would be. The team
taught me how important it is to use the strengths of everyone together to get the most out of it. I
also realized how I needed to desperately improve my cardio and my technique in my scrumming. I
learned how crucial leadership is so you can get the best out of everyone. All it takes is a little
motivation before the game and it will make an enormous difference. The PRC tournament was a
fantastic opportunity for me to learn new skills that I can use to my advantage and certain ways to
run, pass, access the field, and tackle. I highly recommend anyone in any sport to play in a
tournament early so they can learn new things and have a good feal for the game. It is also a
wonderful way to make long lasting friends and the memories will last forever. A tournament is a
way into a great community of people, and it can impact your life in many ways. The PRC
tournament has helped me a lot in the way I play rugby and can hopefully help me after high school.
There are great athletic scholarships for rugby, Trinity Western, UBC, and UVIC. However, there are
also opportunities in the US since rugby is one of the greatest growing sports there. Playing with the
Fraser Valley team has given me friendships and memories I will never forget, and I do not think I will
forget them anytime soon.
