As per UGC ‘Template of course outline’

Part A
1. Course No./Course Code: IPE 3103
2. Course Title: Project and Operation Management
3. Course Type: Core course
4. Year/Level/semester/term: 3rd Year 1st semester, 2nd year 2nd semester, 2nd year 1st semester
5. Academic session: 2021-2022
6. Course teacher/ Instructor: Sumaiya Shahria
7. Pre-requisite (if any): N/A
8. Credit value: 3.0
9. Contract hours: 42 hours
10. Total marks: 100
11. Rationale of the course: This course provides a general introduction to operations management of
manufacturing systems. It will explore strategies for operating and optimizing the production of products in
different varieties and volumes with limited resources and in competitive environments. The impacts of
design decisions on manufacturing performance and the physical organization of plants are explored
through various DFM and plant layout strategies.
12. Course objective: This course is designed to address the key operations and project management issues in
service and manufacturing organizations that have strategic as well as tactical implications. The specific
objectives include:
 To understand the role of operations management in the overall business strategy of the firm.
 To identify and evaluate the key factors and the interdependence of these factors in the design of
effective operating systems.
 To identify and evaluate a range of tools appropriate for analysis of operating systems of the firms.
 To understand the applications of operations management policies and techniques to service sector
as well as manufacturing firms.

13. Course learning outcomes (CLOs) and mapping of CLOs with program learning outcomes (PLOs):
Course learning outcomes (CLOs)
CLO 1 Define objectives and deliverables in a project environment.
Identify and report system properties such as causality, stability, linearity, and time

15. Assessment and Evaluation
1) Assessment strategy:
At first, we start formal classes, then we follow the mode of education ‘analytical learning’ and it
stresses understanding and problem solving rather than memorizing. The assessments are done by class
test, assignment, study work, presentation, and group work.
