MD COMMUNITY MEDICINE PRACTICAL EXAMINATION-2023

COMPUTER SKILLS

QUESTION 1:

We have provided a data set. The data was generated as part of a project on the risk factors of
Myocardial Infarction in patients admitted at the Medical College Hospital. It is a case control
study. Data from 22 cases (MI patients) and 44 controls were collected from the hospital for
analysis.

1. Describe the distribution of Cases and Controls in terms of age & sex and represent
the same using a pictorial diagram. (10 marks)
2. Find out whether there is any difference in BMI, Random blood sugar, Serum
cholesterol between Cases and Controls (15 marks)

QUESTION 2:

We have provided a data set. The data was generated as part of a project on the risk factors of
Myocardial Infarction in patients admitted at the Medical College Hospital. It is a case control
study. Data from 22 cases (MI patients) and 44 controls were collected from the hospital for
analysis.

1. Describe the distribution of Cases and Controls in terms of age & sex and represent
the same using a pictorial diagram. (10 marks)
2. Quantify the association of the risk factors Smoking, Alcohol, Diabetes, Hypertension,
Hypercholesterolemia and Overweight (BMI>=23) with the occurrence of MI. (15
marks)

QUESTION 3:

We have provided a data set. The data was generated as part of a study conducted by Institute of
Biochemistry, MMC. The study was designed to evaluate the non-HDL cholesterol and TC-HDL
ratio as CVD risk marker in DM. It is a case control study. Data from 30 cases (diabetic with
ECG abnormality) and 60 controls (diabetic with no ECG abnormality) were collected

1. Describe the distribution of Cases and Controls in terms of age and sex. Represent the
same using a pictorial diagram. (10 marks)
2. Find out whether there is any difference in BMI, HDL, LDL between Cases and
Controls (15 marks)
QUESTION 4:

We have provided a data set. The data was generated as part of a study conducted by Institute of
Biochemistry, MMC. The study was designed to evaluate the non-HDL cholesterol and TC-HDL
ratio as CVD risk marker in DM. It is a case control study. Data from 30 cases (diabetic with
ECG abnormality) and 60 controls (diabetic with no ECG abnormality) were collected

1. Describe the distribution of Cases and Controls in terms of age and sex. Represent the
same using a pictorial diagram. (10 marks)
2. Find whether there is any association between Smoking, Alcohol consumption,
Hypertension and the proposed risk marker (TC-HDL ratio ≥4 high risk (or) non –
HDL cholesterol > 160 mg/dl high risk) and CVD in DM. (15 marks)

QUESTION 5:

We have provided a data set. The data was generated as part of a study conducted to find the
association between genotype (RM, MM, RR) and intermediate risk factors of CVD namely DM,
HTN and abnormal lipid profile

1. Describe the distribution of various genotype in the given study population.

Represent the same using a suitable graph. (5 marks)
2. Compare the various biochemical measures among the three genotypes. (10
marks)
3. Considering MM as low risk genotype, find the genotypic association with
Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension. (10 marks)
