ABSTRACT

In any other dissertation, result is based on how it is

executed.

The researcher aims to deeply understand about effects

of peer pressure in joining fraternities/sororities at

school as perceived by grade 9 students of Raises Montessori

Academe.

In this study, 50 respondents were asked through survey

about the behavioural factors.

Responses were tallied and weighted and have resulted to

a concrete conclusions.

Through investigation, studies and surveys, it comes up

to the conclusion that there are effects of peer pressure in

joining fraternities to the youth especially without the

proper decisions and guidance to the parents.


CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Fraternities and sororities trace its origins from the

long history of brotherhoods and sisterhoods. As early as

1776, such organizations existed in the North

American region, with names derived from the letters

of the Greek alphabet. (Google.com.ph) It had since

expanded globally and here in the Philippines,

ancient masonry, influenced by the early forms of

fraternities that originated from England, was

introduced during the Spanish era. Such organizations

were responsible for the insurrection against the

Spaniards, and during the Spanish-American War, many

Filipino soldiers, who where Allies of the Americans,

joined and became members. With the introduction of

American education, college fraternities, which were

still present nowadays, began to form. The year 191 saw

the birth of the first original Filipino Greek letter

fraternity in the country, The Upsilon Sigma Phi,

which founded at the University of the Philippines.


STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The researcher wants to know the answers for the

question “Does peer pressure really affects the

students in joining fraternities/sororities at school?”

HYPOTHESIS

Based on the statement of the problem, the

researcher assumes that peer pressure affects the

students in joining fraternities/sororities at school,

the most common reason is curiosity.

Methodology

This research is a survey type where the researcher

gathered information about fraternities and sororities in

grade 9 students of Raises Montessori Academe and uses a

questionnaire to answer the questions.


Locale of the study

This study was conducted in the school of Raises Montessori

Academe Muzon Branch

Scope and Limitation

This study focused on the perception of the selected

grade 9 students of Raises Montessori Academe age 14 and

above in the effects of peer pressure in joining

fraternities/sororities.
Significance of the Study

This Study was important to the residents to the

teachers and to the administration of Raises Montessori

Academe of Taytay. This will be useful to the school in

identifying “The effects of peer pressure in joining

fraternities/sororities as perceived by grade 9 students of

Raises Montessori Academe.”

Definition of terms

Effects - Something that is produced by an agency or cause.

Fraternity - a local or national organization of male

students, primarily for social purposes, usually with secret

initiation and rites and name composed of two or three Greek

letters.

Peer Pressure – a social pressure by members of one’s peer

group to take a certain action adopt certain values, or

otherwise conform in order to be accepted.

Sorority - a society or club of women or girls, especially

in college.
CHAPTER 2

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

This chapter presents the data, analysis of the study and

the interpretation of the data gathered.

old or 70% of the total respondents.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter present to the Summary of Findings, Conclusions

and Recommendations

Summary of Findings

Most of the respondents are grade 9 male and female

students with 15-20 years of age and said that they have

experienced joining fraternities/sororities with their own

decisions.

Conclusions

It is therefore conclude that most of the respondents

are aware in fraternal organizations and they have

experienced joining with fraternities/sororities without the

permission of their parents.

Recommendation

It is the recommended that this study be used for the

future research by the students of Raises Montessori Academe

Muzon branch to prevent fraternal problems. Free-

fraternities/sororities environment/campus would make

students have a better and worth-remembering experience

especially in their high-school life.
