IV. PROCEDURES Explicit Method

A. Preliminary Activities 1. Drill: Game: “Guessing Game”
Divide the class into 3 groups.
A. Let them guess the name of the figures.
.

B.Supply the missing polygon in the pattern. (Group the pupils into 3. Each
group will arrange the polygon according to the sequence/pattern shown.
1.
_________

2.
_______

3. ______

2. Review: Game- “Identify Me”

Identify whether a number is odd or even.
(Group the pupils into 2. As group 1 gives a number, Group 2 answers odd
or even, then have them do it vice-versa)

3. Motivation
Let them know that odd or even numbers are used in number
sequences/patterns.

Consider the table.

What are the encircled numbers?
The encircled numbers form a number sequence.

1, 3, 6, 10, 15, 21, 28, 36, 45

By studying the sequence of numbers, we can find the rule governing the
terms. Then the rule can tell us what number will come next in the sequence.
To know it, we will study how to formulate the rule in finding the next term in
a sequence.

B. Presentation of the Lesson This morning, we will learn about “Formulating the Rule in Finding the
Next Term in a Sequence.”

1. I DO B. Developmental Activities
Modeling of Concept/Skill 1. Presentation (I DO -Modelling of Concept/Skill)

This morning, we will study about “Formulating the Rule in Finding the Next
Term in a Sequence.”

To formulate a rule in finding the next term in a sequence.

1. Determine the order of numbers if it is ascending or descending.
2. Find the difference between the consecutive terms or use the difference
between terms.

Seven days before his mother’s birthday, Holy planned to give

2. WE DO
Guided Practice “Match Me”
(Pairing)
Directions: Match the sequence in Column A to the rule that generates the
terms of the sequence in Column B. Write your answer in your show me,
board.
Column A ( Sequence) Column B ( Rules)
1. 8, 11, 14, 17,… A. Multiply by 2 and add 1
2. 12, 24, 48, 96, … B. Multiply by 2
3. 7, 15, 31, 63, … C. Add 3

3. YOU DO “Complete Me”

Independent Practice ( Group the pupils into 4)
Directions: Given the first term and the rule, make a sequence consisting of
four(4) terms. Write your answer in the spaces provided.

to Formative Assessment 3)
“Define Me”
Directions: Formulate the rule used for each sequence, then write the
missing number.

1.) 1, 4, 7, 10, . . . Rule:____________________

 Add 1 and multiply by 2
D. Finding practical 6. Applying to New and Other Situations
application of concepts and
skills in daily living Solve the problem.
An auditorium has 12 rows of seats. It has 30 seats in the first row, 35
seats in the second raw, 40 seats in the 3rd row and so on in the same
increasing pattern.
A. How many seats are there in the 11th row?
B. All in all, how many seats are there in the theater?
