Internship SWAC/OECD – Research Assistant

The Sahel and West Africa Club (SWAC) is an international platform for policy dialogue and analysis,
devoted to building effective regional policies to improve living conditions in West Africa. Created in
1976, it brings together West African organisations, countries and international organisations and is
the only international entity entirely dedicated to regional co-operation in Africa. SWAC facilitates co-
ordination, conducts independent and forward-looking analysis, and devises guidelines and policy
tools for Members and stakeholders.

SWAC is looking for an intern to contribute to its programme on intra-regional food trade in West
Africa and the Sahel region. The programme aims to support ECOWAS Commission to promote intra-
regional food trade in the region. The main responsibilities of the intern will be to contribute to the
analytical and statistical work of the programme. She/he will work under the supervision of the Head
of unit and in close co-operation with the rest of the team.

Main responsibilities

• Collect and organise data on formal and informal intra-regional food trade in West Africa.
• Carry out empirical/statistical analysis.
• Contribute to the preparation of content for workshops and meetings including maps and
facts, data visualisations and presentations.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Master student or above in economics, agricultural economics, statistics or other relevant


discipline.
• Excellent knowledge of statistical analyses and tools (R, STATA) is required.
• Experience in analysing intra-regional trade in Africa is an advantage.
• Good organisational skills, ability to work effectively based on general instructions with the
capacity to prioritise tasks.
• Enjoy working in multicultural and international environment.
• Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and a knowledge of or
a willingness to learn the other.
