1. What is the difference between production of goods and providing service?

Goods implies the tangible commodity or product, which can be delivered to the

customer. It involves the transfer of ownership and possession from seller to the

buyer. On the other hand, services alludes to the intangible activities which are

separately identifiable and provides satisfaction of wants.

2. What are the importance of operation management?

Operations Management helps streamline processes leading to increased

productivity. Operation management played an important role in increasing the

efficiency of business. By improving the efficiency and avoiding the wastage of

employed resources, it avoids any deficiency of capital in a business.

3. What are the significance of operation management in business?

Operations management is important in a business organisation because it helps

effectively manage, control and supervise goods, services and people. It cuts across

the sector and industry. In the health sector, operations management ensures proper

health delivery with the right instruments at the right time.


4. Define the following

- Operation Management

Operations management is the administration of business structure, practices, and

processes to enhance efficiency and maximize profit.

- Quality

defined as the measure of excellence of a product. In other words, it shows how

well a product satisfies customers. It also shows whether the product or service meets

the demands or requirements of the market.

- Total Quality Management

Total Quality Management is a management framework based on the belief that

an organization can build long-term success by having all its members from low-level

workers to its highest-ranking executivesfocus on improving quality and, thus,

delivering customer satisfaction.

- Features

Product traits or attributes that deliver value to end-users and differentiate a

product in the market

- Reliability

Reliability involves almost all aspects related to the possession of a property: cost

management, customer satisfaction, the proper management of resources, passing

through the ability to sell products or services, safety and quality of the product.
- Conforme

To behave according to a group’s usual standards and expectations, or to operate

according to a rule. The contract requires that managers conform to high standards of

personal conduct.

- Durability

Durability is the ability of a physical product to remain functional, without

requiring excessive maintenance or repair, when faced with the challenges of normal

operation over its design lifetime. There are several measures of durability in use,

including years of life, hours of use, and number of operational cycles.

- Serviceability

Serviceability is the measure of and the set of the features that support the ease

and speed of which corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance can be

conducted on a system. Corrective Maintenance (CM) includes all the actions taken to

repair a failed system and get it back into an operating or available state.

- Aesthetics

A well-developed aesthetic sense enables professionals to create a unique brand

identity that sets them apart from their competitors.

- Perceive Quality

Perceived quality is the quality of a product or service according to the customer's

perception. It is a subjective criterion and does not have to coincide with the actual or

objective quality, which is based on tangible data such as raw materials,

manufacturing process, warranty or after-sales service.


5. How does TQM differ from traditional management ?

Traditional management proposes hierarchical, vertically structured

organizations. TQM, on the other hand, seeks to create a culture of networking across

and among functions, so that teams form different disciplines come together to seek a

permanent solution to each problem, as it is identified.

6. Why do you think companies should shift to TQM from Traditional Management?

In my own perspective companies should shift to TQM because one of the

benefits of TQM is that managers do not make all the decisions they support staff to

make their own decisions. This improves self-confidence throughout employees.

Problem solving focus will encourage initiatives.

7. What is the re-engineering process in TQM?

In contrast, reengineering, also known as business process redesign or process

innovation, refers to prudent initiatives intended to achieve radically redesigned and

improved work processes in a specific time frame. In contrast to continuous

improvement, BPR relies on a different school of thought.
