1. In his first main prediction, how can humanity benefit from being an interplanetary
species?

According to the first prediction, becoming a multiplanetary species might safeguard the future
of humanity and aid in its development. The presence of humans on numerous planets will
establish fresh centers for experimentation and innovation that will enhance science,
technology, and industry. An investment in national and international security against long-tail
hazards is significant increases in public and private funding on crewed spaceflight. Imagine if
there were 80 billion people on the planet in the future as opposed to just 8 billion as there are
now. Our world now has a finite carrying capacity, yet our solar system has a much larger
carrying capacity than any one planet. Increasing the diversity of human environments would
foster the continued development of our species' creative potential, just as cultural and
geographic diversity adds to the richness of our contemporary society. Diversifying our planetary
footprint is the most effective mitigation technique for several classes of long-tail risks that add
up to serious existential peril and one that offers a route for human happiness beyond what is
possible on one planet.

2. Based on his examples in his second main prediction, what do you think is the best
application of the future of future technology and why?

What the Human Genome Project (HGP) done for genetics; the Human Connectome Project
(HCP) hopes to accomplish for the brain. One of the biggest scientific challenges of the twenty-
first century is brain mapping. The neuronal connections that underlie brain function and
behavior are being mapped through the Human Connectome Project. Our understanding of the
human mind and brain in both health and sickness will change as a result of the HCP results.
HCP will ultimately produce essential knowledge on brain connectivity, how it affects behavior,
and how genetic and environmental factors affect how individuals differ from one another in
terms of their brain circuitry and behavior. The HCP data will be used by researchers to
investigate the relationship between a person's brain connectivity and their mental faculties,
such as memory, self-control, and decision-making. Individual connectome mapping, in Van
Essen's opinion, may eventually result in better mental disorder therapy. In the future, a
neurologist could examine faulty brain circuitry to precisely identify what is unusual and then
fine-tune a customized regimen of therapy and/or medicine, as opposed to simply providing a
generalized diagnostic for mental diseases like autism, dyslexia, schizophrenia, etc.

3. In his third main prediction, why do you think defeating cancer is a great benefit for
humanity?

The top cause of mortality in the US will be cancer within the next few years. It is probably going
to be the leading cause of death globally later in this century. Research and discoveries
produced by scientists across several fields spanning decades and even generations frequently
lead to breakthroughs in prevention, early detection, screening, diagnosis, and treatment. To
ultimately transform yesterday's findings into today's advancements and tomorrow's treatments,
cancer research involves partnerships and collaborations involving researchers, physicians,
patients, and others.
