Ex. No.

: 09 Cascading Circuit for the Sequencing of two cylinders A+ B+ B- A-

Date:

Aim:

To design and simulate the Cascading Circuit for two cylinders to perform sequencing
of A B+ B-A-.
+

Tools required:

Personal computer, FluidSim software

Procedure:

1. Grouping of sequence.
A+ B+ / B- A-
Group I II
2. Alphabets should not repeat in the same group
No of cylinder = 2

No of Group = n =2

No. of Group Changing Valve (4/2 pilot actuated) = n-1=2-1=1

No. of DCV (4/2 pilot actuated) = No. of Cylinder

No. of Limit switches (3/2 way, cam-actuated, spring return) = 2 per cylinder

3. Input for the limit switches must be given from the corresponding main line of the
group
4. In between the group limit switches need to actuate the DCV
5. After completion of a group, the output of the limit switch must actuate the group
changing valve

Functioning of Group Changing Valve

Left mode:

6. The left mode of the GCV performs the functions A+ B+.

7. The Limit switches A1 and B1 are given input from the fluid line from port A of
GCV.
8. The fluid line from port A is given as a pilot signal to the left mode of DCV A, so that
Cylinder A expands.
9. After the expansion of Cylinder A, Limit switch A1 gets actuated. The output of limit
switch A1 is given as a pilot signal to the left mode of DCV B so that Cylinder B
expands.
10. The expansion of cylinder B actuates the limit switch B1. The output of limit switch
B1 is given as a pilot signal to the right mode of GCV.

Right mode:

11. The right mode of the GCV performs the functions B- A-.
12. The Limit switches B0 and A0 are given input from the fluid line from port B of
GCV.
13. The fluid line from port B is given as a pilot signal to the right mode of DCV B, so
that Cylinder B retracts.
14. After the retraction of Cylinder B, Limit switch B0 gets actuated. The output of limit
switch B0 is given as a pilot signal to the right mode of DCV A, so that Cylinder A
retracts.
15. The retraction of cylinder A actuates the limit switch A0. The output of limit switch
A0 is given as a pilot signal to the right mode of GCV.

Result:

Thus the Cascading Circuit for two cylinders to perform sequencing of A+ B+ B-A- is
designed and simulated using the FluidSim software.

switch C0 is given as a pilot signal to the left mode of DCV A so that Cylinder A
expands.
10. The expansion of cylinder A actuates the limit switch A1. The output of limit switch
A1 is given as a pilot signal to the left mode of DCV B so that Cylinder B expands.
11. The expansion of cylinder B actuates the limit switch B1. The output of limit switch

Group II.

Right mode:

17. The expansion of cylinder C actuates the limit switch C1. The output of limit switch
C1 is given as a pilot signal to the left mode of GCV to actuate the sequence under
Group I.

Result:

Thus the Cascading Circuit for three cylinders to perform sequencing of A+ B+ B-A-
C+C- is designed and simulated using the FluidSim software.
