CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
An industrial attachment is a work experience which is part of any TVET institution’s
curriculum. Trainees are exposed to several skills like technical skills, team work and many.
Industrial attachment assists students through transforming their work into practical work. It
also helps trainees to gain new technology through creative thinking, critical thinking and
team work.

ATTACHMENT INSTITUTION
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The FREMO SOLAR SOLUTIONS AND ELECTRICALS is established in Sega, Siaya County. The
firm was established to offer different types of solar and electrical services as well as both
domestic and industrial clients within Kenya. The firm is licensed with EPRA and proud of
having a house registered electrical engineers who are certified with Engineers Board of
Kenya.

OBJECTIVES
1. Servicing and maintaining our existing client base
2. Having employees that understand and implement our high standards
3. Reliability and communication with clients from beginning of each job to end.

MISSION
1. Creation of job opportunities to young people.
2. Improving development to the community.
3. Creation of revenue to the authority.
4. Powering young and old people for better life.

VISSION
1. To provide world power that delight our customers
2. To provide technical skills to trainees that enables them in problem solving.
3. To assists trainees in participating in team work.
4. To help trainee in creative thinking.
5. To assist trainee in having self-esteem.

CORE VALUES
1. Strive in excellence in all work done.
2. To work together as one team to achieve its goals.

1
3. Passionate about powering the nation.
4. Believe in integrity and delivering on its promises.
5. To put customers first as they matter most.

2
CHAPTER TWO
ACTIVITIES DONE

1. CHANGING OF BULB SOCKET IN A LIGHT FIXTURE

STEPS
i. Turn power off
ii. Remove the globe
iii. Test for power
iv. Loosen the fixture and test for power
v. Disconnect the wiring
vi. Remove the socket
vii. Install the new socket
viii. Reinstall the fixture

2. INSTALLATION OF WALL LAMP

STEPS
i. Turn off the power
ii. Attach the mounting bracket
iii. Connect the wire to the wall lamp
iv. Attach the wall lamp
v. Insert light bulb
vi. Attach a cord and plug to a wall lamp

3. FIXING OF LIGHT BULB

Tighten the bulb if it is loose, then try the switch again. If a problem remains, be sure the
switch is off, remove the bulb and put a new one. If the bulb does not light, check the circuit
breaker or fuse governing the fixture has tripped or blow.

4. PIPING
This involves;

i. Laying of electrical conduits in slab

 The slab conduits for house wiring should be 2mm thick and 25mm in size for PVC
conduits
 They should be laid between the top and bottom reinforcement
 We used junction boxes in slabs.
 The PVC conduits should be properly bonded using binding wire.

ii. Laying of electrical conduits in wall

 It is carried out after the construction of masonry walls but before the plastering
work start.

3
 This is done by chasing of wall using cold chisel and mason hammer or by using wall
cutters.
 After chasing,we fixed the electrical conduit with the approved clips to ensure proper
 Routing and wiring.
 Once the conduits, boxes and accessories are fixed, the chiselled surface should be
filled with cement mortar around the conduits.

5. MAINTENANCE OF POWER DISTRIBUTION BOARD

Power distribution board is a component of electricity supply system that divides an
electrical power feed into subsidiary circuits while providing a protective fuse or a circuit
breaker for each circuit in a common enclosure. It connects between final circuits and main
circuits.

6. WIRING
 Wiring is a system of wires especially an arrangement of wires used for electric
distribution.
 The electric power line enters our house through wires namely; live, neutral and
earth wire.
 For avoidance of confusion a color code for insulating these wires is followed;

 The red-wire is the live

 The black wire is for neutral
 The green wire for strip yellow

 There are different sizes of wires used in wiring

 Wiring involves pulling of wires through conduits using a steel tape

SIZES OF WIRES USED

a) 6.0mm2
-we used this to distribute power from the meter box to the consumer unit which was
placed inside the house
b) 4.0mm2
-are mainly used by cookers and shows
-each electrical accessory like cookers and showers are connected to different circuit
breakers of 32 amperes to avoid overloading of the breakers.
c) c) 2.5mm
-are used in sockets
d) d) 1.5mm

4
-are used in lighting the house with a circuit breaker of 6.0amperes

5. MOUNTING OF PV MODULE
Since PV modules are electronic appliances which produce electricity in the presence of
sunlight, they should be mounted at a given angle corresponding to the solar radiation. We
use roof mounting method with the help of a roof rack. They were six PV modules, each 150
watts, they were connected in parallel to three solar batteries each with a nominal voltage
of 24v. We used 6.0mm cable to give connection from the modules to the charge controller
and finally to the inverter and finally to the CCU for AC loads.

6. CHANGING OF CEILLING LIGHT BULB

-Hold the long, tubular bulb with both hands and rotates it at 90 degrees or ¼ turn counter
clockwise, lower one end straight down from the socket, then pull the bulb out of the
fixture.

CHAPTER THREE
LESSONS EXPERIENCED AND SKILLS LEARNT
Through my attachment period I have learnt on how to deal with customers irrespective of
their status and wellbeing.
Two, regarding safety and skills, I have learnt how to use various tools and equipment for
their correct purpose and functions meant for it.
Finally, keeping a work station is the key thing, learnt how to be innovative in the field by
knowing how to do things manually and correctly.

SOCIAL/MORAL EDUCATION
Time management is the key, doing what is necessary at the correct time and how to follow
instructions with minimal or no supervision.
Two, enhancing effective communication with my supervisors and fellow trainees in case of
any assistance.
Finally, data collection was awesome i.e., observation asking questions, making inquiry and
recording new methods of doing various activities for success and effectiveness of work
based on any kind of field work.

5
CHAPTER FOUR
CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED
Lack of suitable and sufficient means to and from the working place.
Harsh weather conditions e.g. heavy rainfalls hence hindering effective performance
of work.
Few or no safety gears i.e., overall, helmet, gloves which had resulted to minor
accidents.
SOLUTIONS TO THE CHALLENGES FACED
Besides the poor working conditions, we trained ourselves to be strong and work for
long hours without suspension.
More working tools should be purchased for making work easier in times of job
assignment to reduce the cases of waiting for one person to finish is when the next
person uses.
Protective clothing should be worn in times of harsh weather condtions and in hostile
environment.

6
CHAPTER FIVE
CONCLUSION
I appreciate the opportunity that I was given at FREMO Solar Solutions and
electricals to apply skills and knowledge. I have achieved my set objectives and I
hope that I performed to the expectations of the company.
My experience at the company has been symbolic of what I should exact in future
and what is expected of me in a working environment. It was my pleasure working at
the company and wish the organization well as it continues serving the customers
well.

7
CHAPTER SIX
RECOMMENDATION
I would like to recommend the following for a better working environment in the
future;
The company should offer better safety equipment like overalls, gloves, helmet,
safety boots to reduce the cases of accidents
The company should create awareness and educate the attaches on the benefits of
the attachment.
