PRIVATE CLOUD
Characteristics & Suitability

Secure Suitability
Deployed and managed by the organization  Require a separate cloud for their personal or official
itself. use.
 Have sufficient amount of funds.
 Consider data security to be important
 Want autonomy and complete control over the cloud.
 Have a less number of users.
Central Control  Have prebuilt infrastructure for deploying the cloud.
Full control over the cloud.
Not Suitable for
Have high user base.
Have financial constraints
Do not have prebuilt infrastructure
Weak SLAs Do not have sufficient manpower to maintain
and manage the cloud.
Formal SLAs may or may not exist in a private
cloud  high availability and good service may
or may not be available.

Service Level Agreement

1. Users have broader access rights than the general
public cloud users.
2. Service providers provide the services efficiently
because of the small user based and mostly efficient
network.

Network
1. Cloud depends on the network.
2. Network consists of a high bandwidth and has a low
latency
3. Network management and maintenance is easier

Performance
1. The performance can be controlled by the network
management team.
2. Number of resource is low  good performance.

Security & Data Privacy

1. The private cloud is affected the least
2. Security breaches are possible if an internal user
misuses the privileges.

Location
1. Data are internal and are usually stored in the same
geographical location where the cloud users are
present.
2. If company has several physical locations  Cloud is
distributed over several places and connected using
the Internet

Cloud Management
1. Tasks are resource scheduling, resource provisioning
and resource management.
2. Number of users, network size, amount of resources
affect cloud management private cloud is simpler than
other types of cloud.

PUBLIC CLOUD
Characteristics

High scalable
1. The resource in the public cloud are large in number
2. The service providers make sure that all the requests
are granted.

Affordable
1. Is offered to the public on a pay – as – you – go basis
2. Does not involve any cost related to the deployment

Less secure
1. Is less secure out of all the four deployment models.
2. Is offered by a third party and they have full control
over the cloud
3. Through the SLAs ensure privacy, still there is a high
risk of data being leaked.

page 18
PUBLIC CLOUD
Characteristics

High available
1. Anybody from any part of the world can access the
public cloud with proper permission.

Stringent SLAs
1. SLA is very stringent in the case of the public cloud
2. AS the service provider’s business reputation and
customer strength are totally dependent on the cloud
service
3. They follow the SLA strictly and violations are avoided.
4. These SLAs are very competitive.

page 19
PUBLIC CLOUD
Suitability & Not Suitability

Suitability Not Suitability

 The requirement for resources is large  Security is very important
 there is large user base.  Organization expects autonomy.
 The requirement for resources is varying.  Third party reliability is not preferred.
 There is no physical infrastructure available.
 An organization has financial constraints.

2. there is a high risk of data being leaked or a possible
unprivileged access. 1. The services are accessed through the Internet by all the
users  the service delivery wholly depends on the network.

1. involves continuous check of the resources, network, and
other such parameters for long-lasting efficient delivery of
the service.
2. The good the cloud is maintained, the better is the quality
of service.
Laws & Conflict
data centers are bound to laws of the country in which
they are located  conflicts and problems for the service
providers and the users. Cloud Management
1. number of users is more, and so the management is
difficult.
2. Inefficient management of resources will lead to
resource shortage  user service might be affected 
a direct impact on SLA  cause SLA violation.

Characteristics

Collaborative & Distributive Maintenance

1. is wholly collaborative, and usually no single party has
full control over the whole cloud.
2. is usually distributive  better cooperation gives better
results.

Partial Secure
1. few organizations share the cloud  there is a
possibility that the data can be leaked from one
organization to another, though it is safe from the
outside world.

Cost Effective
1. is being shared by several organizations or a
community.

2. The public cloud is used whenever needed; as the
public cloud is scalable.

Partial Secure
1. The private cloud is considered to be secured, but as
the hybrid cloud also uses the public cloud, there is
high risk of security breach  partially secure.

Stringent SLAs

Complex Cloud Management
