REFLECTION PAPER "FILIPINO VALUES"

To begin, we should define what we mean by "Filipino values."

Filipino values are social constructions that define what is
deemed good in Filipino society. The term "Filipino value
system" is used to define "the commonly shared and
traditionally established system of values underlying Filipino
behavior" within the broader Filipino cultural system.
Everything from etiquette to personal and cultural values to a set
of coherent ideals is emphasized in Filipino culture.
There are some aspects of Filipino culture that I don't appreciate
and others that I do; some of these can even be categorized as
"ethical."
The first aspect of Filipino culture that bothers me is the concept
of "hiya," which means either to be timid or to have no shame.
In my opinion, if we want to express our true selves, we need to
overcome our natural reserve.
Next, I admire the "pagpapahalaga sa pamilya o pag giging
mapagmahal" displayed by Filipinos; we take great pride in
showing affection for our loved ones, whether they are members
of our own families or not. Filipinos are naturally upbeat and
loving; if their family is together, then they are content, no
matter the circumstances.

Lastly, "pakikipag kapwa" can be a valuable part of an ethics

curriculum because it allows students to draw parallels between
moral and immoral actions. Filipinos are friendly and
welcoming to people of all backgrounds and cultures because
they have learned to get along with one another.
Thankyou
