Leadership Styles and Effective Communication

Today’s organizations need effective leaders who understand the complexities of the
rapidly changing global environment. A good leader adapts his communication style
depending on his audience. When speaking to employees, he may need to have a much
more directive style than when he is delivering a presentation to the community or speaking
to customers. Leaders should identify the audience and their characteristics and interests,
then adjust their communication style based on what the audience needs and what will
encourage them to react to meet the goals of the communication. Throughout the course of
a day, the leader may have to switch between an authoritative style with employees and an
inspiring style with stockholders.
To become a great leader one should be a great communicator. Great leaders are
always considered as first-class communicators, they have a clear set of values and they
always believe in promoting and inculcating those values in others. It is due to this reason
that their teams appreciate them and follow them as a leader.
The best communicators always have a unique quality of listening peacefully to what
others are speaking. This makes them good observer and enables them to read a person or
group’s mind by analyzing the attitudes, behavior, activities, ideals, anxieties and are able to
modify their messages according to the situation. Leaders who communicate effectively to
encourage and stimulate their people are considered to be the best leaders or managers.
They ensure work, discipline, and a sense of responsibility among team members. They have
strong and precise set of working principles and believe to incorporate the same in their
teams and because of this they are highly appreciated and followed by their team members.
Effective leadership and employee job satisfaction are considered to be the fundamental
factors for organizational success. Employees are the most important asset in an
organization. A capable leader provides guidance for the organization and lead followers
towards achieving desired goals. Therefore, organizations need to have efficient leaders to
lead and motivate their employees in their daily operation so that they can achieve the
organizational goals.
