E0152-11 - Separator - Unidentified Failure Code

Control Module : A-Post 2

Context: : CXCM contains embedded protective circuitry that will shut off power to the Separator
SOL-249A solenoid circuit should an over current or no current condition exist. If CXCM senses
that an over current or no current condition exists, this error will occur.

Cause:

Feeder reverse SOL-249A solenoid circuit is open or shorted to ground.

Possible failure modes:

1. Source or control circuit wiring damaged

2. Bad solenoid.

3. Controller internal failure.

Solution: :

1. Verify the fault is present. Use the A Post Display to verify E0152-11 - Separator -
Unidentified Failure Code is present. Use the A Post Display to monitor the current flow.
Power the circuit at 100 % output. The proper current is approximately 1.0 - 1.5 A .

A. If the current reading goes to maximum, and then back to zero, the circuit is
shorted to ground and the software has shut off the output to protect the module and
wiring. Continue with step 2 .
B. If the reading is 0.0 A , the circuit is open. Continue with step 6 .
C. If the reading is within the proper range, the circuit is working properly. The fault
may be intermittent and not currently active. Continue with step 11 .
2. Locate the short to ground. Disconnect the left hand side harness from the separator solenoid
SOL-249A at connector C-249. Use a multi-meter to measure the resistance of the separator
solenoid SOL-249A between pins 1 and 2. The proper resistance is approximately 7.5 Ω .

A. If there is continuity, the separator solenoid is shorted to ground. Replace

solenoid.
B. If there is no continuity, continue with step 3 .
3. Locate the short to ground. Use a multi-meter to check for continuity between the left hand
side harness connector C-249 pin 1 to chassis ground. There should not be continuity.

A. If there is continuity, continue with step 4 .

B. If there is no continuity, continue with step 8 .

4. Locate the short to ground. Disconnect the left hand side harness from the cab main harness at
connector C-003. Use a multi-meter to check for continuity from Right Hand Side harness
connector C-003 pin 46 to chassis ground. There should not be continuity.

A. If there is continuity, continue with step 5 .

B. If there is no continuity, then the short to ground is in the left hand side harness
between connector C-249 pin 1 and connector C-003 pin 46, wire 91 white. Locate
and repair grounded conductor.
5. Locate the short to ground. Carefully disconnect the Cab Main harness from the A POST at
connector C-033. Use a multi-meter to check for continuity from Cab Main harness side of
connector C-033 pin 6 to chassis ground. There should not be continuity.

A. If there no continuity, the A POST has failed. Replace module.

B. If there is continuity, the short to ground is in the Cab Main harness between
connector C-003 pin 46 and connector C-033 pin 6, wire 91 white. Locate and repair
grounded conductor.
6. Verify the ground circuit for open source. Disconnect the left hand side harness from the
separator solenoid SOL-249A at connector C-249. Use a multi-meter to check for continuity
from left hand side harness side of C-249 pin 2 to chassis ground. There should be continuity.

A. If there is no continuity continue with step 7 .

B. If there is continuity, continue with step 8 .
7. Locate the open source. Disconnect the left hand side harness from the cab main harness at
connector C-003. Use a multi-meter to check for continuity from left hand side harness
connector C-003 pin 48 to chassis ground. There should be continuity.

A. If there is no continuity, there is an open condition in the cab main harness

between connector C-003 pin 48 and cab main harness splice, wire 406-1 black.
Locate and repair open conductor.
B. If there is continuity, then the open circuit is in the left hand side harness between
connector C-249 pin 2 and connector C-003 pin 48, wire 406-1 black. Locate and
repair open conductor.
8. Verify signal circuit for an open. Turn the key switch in the ON position. Use the A Post
Display to manually power the separator solenoid. Disconnect the left hand side harness from
the separator solenoid at connector C-249. Use a multi-meter to check for voltage between
Front Lower harness at connector C-249 pin 1 to chassis ground. There should be 12 V .

A. If 12 V is not present, continue with step 9 .

B. If 12 V is present, check mechanical operation of solenoid valve.
9. Locate the open source. Turn the key switch in the ON position. Use the A Post Display to
manually power the separator solenoid. Disconnect the left hand side harness from the cab
main harness at connector C-003. Use a multi-meter to check for voltage between cab main
harness at connector C-003 pin 46 to chassis ground. There should be 12 V .

A. If 12 V is not present, continue with step 10 .

B. If 12 V is present, the open circuit condition is in the left hand side harness

between connector C-249 pin 1 and connector C-003 pin 46, wire 91 white. Locate
and repair open conductor.
10. Locate the open source. Turn the key switch OFF. Carefully disconnect the Cab Main harness
from the A Post at connector C-033. Use a multi-meter to check for continuity from Cab Main
harness side of connector C-033 pin 6 to chassis ground. There should be no continuity.

A. If there is no continuity, the A Post has failed. Replace module.

B. If there is continuity, then the open source is in the Cab Main harness between
connector C-003 pin 46 and connector C-033 pin 6, wire 91 white. Locate and repair
open conductor.
11. Visually inspect the relevant harnesses and connectors for damage, bent or dislocated pins,
corroded terminals or broken wires. Verify that the connectors are fully installed. Flex the
harnesses involved to reveal intermittent breaks or shorts in the wiring concerned. Operate the
machine while monitoring the Display.

A. If damage is found or other than normal display readings are indicated, repair the
damage discovered during the inspection or locate and repair the other than normal
display condition and verify that the error has been resolved.
B. If no damage or other than normal display readings are indicated, erase the fault
code and continue operation.
