questions below. Consider how laws and policies help the environment.

2.1 Name the special investigation unit that investigates companies which pollute and
damage the environment.

2.2 List three ways in which the national government works to protect environmental
health.

2.3 Write a short description of how the following can help to protect the environment:
a) Government policies
b) Law and regulations
c) People and communities

2.4 a) How can one judge if the local community is making any attempt to protect the
environment?

b) Evaluate whether the people in your community have a good attitude to this issue
and whether or not they are responsible.

Activity 3: Plan an Earth Day celebration

3.1 Create a poster with ideas for honouring Earth Day next year.
3.2 Why wait for Earth Day to make a difference to the environment. Choose an idea
and start implementing it today.

Activity 4: Earth day is celebrated across the world on a set day.

4.1 Write a paragraph explaining how the first Earth Day came about. On what date
do we celebrate Earth Day? Explain how we celebrate Earth Day in South Africa.
4.2 Describe what you could do to celebrate Earth Day, showing how you could be
kinder to earth.
