Social Security System (SSS)

What is SSS?

 The Social Security System (SSS) is a government agency in the Philippines that
offers social insurance programs for Filipino workers in the private, professional,
and informal sectors. The SSS provides protection against various contingencies
such as old age, disability, sickness, maternity, death, and unemployment.
 On September 1, 1957, the Social Security Act of 1954 was implemented. It was
founded by Republic Act No. 1161, also known as the Social Security Act of
1954. Thereafter, the coverage and benefits given by SSS have been expanded
and enhanced through the enactment of various laws. In 1997, Republic Act No.
8282 was passes, amending the law. Republic Act (RA) No. 11199, otherwise
known as the “Social Security Act of 2018” or the SSS Law, became effective on
05 March 2019.

What is the Role of SSS?

 SSS is a government financial institution in our country. It provides insurance


programs for workers in the private, professional, and informal sectors. Members
of this agency are entitled to various benefits such as retirement, disability,
survivors’, maternity, and funeral benefits. Apart from this, SSS members are
also entitled to avail of other services such as loans and health care benefits.

What is its Mission?

 To manage a sound and viable social security system which shall promote social
justice and provide meaningful protection to members and their families against
the hazards of disability, sickness, maternity, old age, death and other
contingencies resulting in loss of income or financial burden.

What is its Vision Statement?

 A viable social security institution providing universal and equitable social


protection through world-class service.

Benefits, Programs and Services

 Provides benefits, programs, and services to all of its Filipino members, both
residing in the Philippines and those abroad.

a. Death Benefit – offers cash payment sent to the dead member’s


beneficiaries. It could be through monthly pension or a lump sum
payment.
b. Disability benefit – is a monetary payment made to a member who has
been disabled, whether partially or completely disabled.
c. Funeral Benefit – cash payment to be received by the individual who paid
for the dead member’s burial expenses.
d. Maternity benefit – SSS maternity leave benefit for female member who is
unable to work due to childbirth.
e. Paternity Leave benefit – compensation given to a kid’s father when a
child is born.
f. Retirement benefit – a benefit made to a member who is unable to work
due to old age.
g. Sickness benefit – Monetary allowance to a member who is unable to
work due to sickness.
h. Unemployment benefit – benefit given to members who are terminated
from their jobs.

Department of Agriculture

 DA is a government agency responsible in promoting


the agricultural development of the country by giving
and providing policy framework, public investments,
and support services needed for domestic and
export-based business enterprises. Department of
Agriculture is duly responsible as well in helping the
farming and fishing communities to produce
sufficient, accessible and cheap food for every
Filipino.
Department of Health (DOH)

 DOH is also an agency that aims to serve every


Filipino in terms of principal health. It is mandated to be
the over-all technical authority on health. The major
mandate of DOH is to provide national policy direction
and develop national plans, technical standards and
guidelines on health. It has three major roles: health
leader, enabler and capacity-builder, and as
administrator of specific services.

Department of Trade and Industry

 DTI is a government agency dedicated to protecting


consumers’ rights and interest. It serves as the
primary coordinative, promotive, facilitative, and
regulatory arm of the government for the country’s
trade, industry, and investment activities. It is also
responsible in making policies and programs intended
to support the economy of the country.

Department of Labor and Employment

 DOLE is a national agency responsible in formulating


policies, implementing programs, and serving as the
policy-coordinating arm of the Executive Branch in
the filed of Labor and Employment. It promotes labor
and employment opportunities for every Filipino and
optimizes development of the country’s manpower
resources.
