1 Introduction

1.1 Purpose
This document describes the APS mechanism for redundancy on a single 7705 SAR 18.

2 Preliminary Information

2.1 Affected Network Elements or Sites

The list below identifies the equipment that is modified during execution of this Acceptance Test Plan document.
Prior to implementation, verify and confirm that the information is correct.

 SAR 18 Centro
 SAR 18 Hipodromo

2.2 Logins

The login information required during execution of this Acceptance Test Plan document are defaults Passwords
and passphrases are not included for security reasons and are to be provided to COMTECO.

2.3 Dependencies

The following list provides the dependencies and customer deliverables for the successful implementation of this
Acceptance Test Plan. If these criteria are not met, this Acceptance Test Plan will not be executed.

 The 7705 SAR must be physically installed and powered prior to the arrival of the integration team.
 All cabling to the 7705 SAR has been run.

3 Configuration

3.1 APS

Automatic Protection Switching (APS) is a means to provide redundancy on SONET equipment to guard
against linear unidirectional or bidirectional failures. The network elements (NEs) in a SONET/SDH
network constantly monitor the health of the network. When a failure is detected, the network
proceeds through a coordinated predefined sequence of steps to transfer (or switchover) live traffic to
the backup facility (called protection facility.) This is done very quickly to minimize lost traffic. Traffic
remains on the protection facility until the primary facility (called working facility) fault is cleared, at
which time the traffic may optionally be reverted to the working facility.

3.2 Fabric profile

The SAR18 default configuration is set to 200Mbps of traffic between the Cards and the fabric.
Is necessary configure a fabric profile in 2,5 Gbps.
