Evaluation Report
Performance Review
Executive Summary

A concise synopsis of report is to be prepared that provides an overview of all

substantives elements of evaluation, while emphasizing performance, highlights,
recommendation and lesson learned from the previous project (Spelling Bee
Competition in Indigenous Languages ).
About the program
In celebration of heritage month, our organization hosted the first-ever spelling bee
competition in SA Indigenous languages mainly, Sepedi, IsiZulu and Xitsonga. The
selection was based on the availability of the schools offering those indigenous
languages mentioned above as home languages subjects.
This event was inspired by the growing celebration of Heritage month in SA and as
an organization, we wanted to celebrate heritage month with something new. We
hosted learners from selected schools in Mamelodi. The schools were responsible to
choose one leaner from each grade (Grade 3 to grade 7).

Evaluation findings
The project was clearly consistent and was relevant to the needs, in the area
covered.
As documented in the project final narrative report confirmed by this evaluation
report, the project was highly effective. Not only we planned the activity we
implemented, but also anticipated results, in form of capacity building and networking
were achieved. The project also improved the level of the NGO representation.

RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Promoting Knowledge
Information sharing with the local beneficiaries, recipient governments, NGO, and
other donor’s (our sponsors), help to build new knowledge about efficient practices,
and generate understanding and support for what the organization is trying to
accomplish. One-off partnerships and projects are valuable, not least for building
confidence, but both the organization and our partners in local government need to
adopt a long-term perspective if we are to prove sustainable. Participants in
evaluation process can reflect on development activities and become engaged in the
strengthening of project’s programming. In this case we need to monitor participants
the whole 2 weeks before the competition.
2. For Organization’s Network
Give more emphasis to web-based dissemination / coordination. Project
implementation was superb, but a month after project close, the report consisting of
case studies of successful concrete project examples was still not accessible. To this
recommendation is an understanding that, while the web is a great self-organizing
system – the evaluator will be able to find a wealth of reports, videos, etc.
3. Demonstrating Accountability and Transparency
Board members expect, to be values-based and results-driven. To this end,
evaluation report set out level of performance and measure of the appropriateness of
the resources location in the use of public donations.

THEORY OF ACTION
Theory of action of the project publication and technical had to do with the theory of
action of capacity building process and compromised the following steps:
a) Determine the need for statistic on all the school that will be chosen.
b) Set specific objectives of the schools chosen.
c) Determine the subjects content for each school
d) Select participants
e) Determine the best 5 participants from each school
f) Select appropriate links between and sequencing activities.
g) Select appropriate instructors for specific language.
h) Prepare common aids when possible.
i) Coordinate the different activities to produce synergies towards the expected
accomplishment (for example, when we have two candidates in a tie, we can
make the candidate translate the English word given to them, to their own
language and spell the word they’ve translated).
THEORY OF CHANGE
1) Increase availability for the upcoming project(mostly The Eye of Hope
Executive Committee), and increase best practice –documents, related to the
production of the Spelling Bee Competition indicators in language other than
English.
2) Maintaining a channel of communication between instructors, school
teacher’s, participants before the event.
More permanent development goal for interchanging experiences, best
practices.

Input/Output Outcome Impact

1) Inputs/Output
 Investments, this includes participation of members, resources that will be
used for the project and service and knowledge provided.

2) Outcomes
Outcomes are defined as medium-term effects of the project outputs. Outcomes
are observable changes that can be linked to project intervention. In this chase,
we aim to improve the quality of education, in order to that, language policies
need to take account of mother tongue in the learning.

3) Impact
Managing the impact means the project manager(s) the executive members
responsible official adapt the project changing circumstances so that it has more
chances of achieving its intend objectives. To do this :
 Understand the project design.
 Gather and analyze relevant information to make goof decisions.
 Facilitate learning amongst all the partners.
