Karl Blakebrough
Studying Bachelor of Engineering (Engineering Scholars Program), Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds Recipient of Barwon Water Civil Engineering Scholarship Karl was awarded a Barwon Water Civil Engineering Scholarship after achieving an ATAR of 89.70 in his final year at Christian College in Geelong. He receives an annual scholarship of $5000 for the duration of his course and the opportunity to undertake paid work experience at Barwon Water over the summer break. Wanting to stay in the area and enjoy a coastal lifestyle, Deakin was a logical choice for Karl who liked the friendly, semirural feel of the Campus and the fact that civil engineering is offered. Work experience at Barwon Water will build on the knowledge and experience that I already have. Im really looking forward to it. It will definitely be worthwhile and rewarding, he says.

Jodie Satour
Bachelor of Social Work at the Institute of Koorie Education, Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds When I decided to pursue a Bachelor of Social Work, I wanted two things: a university that offered a communitybased model and one that had a reputation for assisting students to pursue their goals. The Institute of Koorie Education at Deakin gave me what I wanted and more. The communitybased model allows me to study in my own community with the

option of attending twoweek intensive blocks. The Institute has a reputation for assisting students to reach their full potential. The course lecturers bring real life experiences into the classroom, there is an impressive array of guest speakers and a diverse body of students to stimulate class discussions. Deakin also offers students the opportunity to receive scholarships to alleviate hardship. My scholarship helped to reduce my HECS debt.
