about the medicinal plant Curcuma (Curcuma grow well in the lowlands to an altitude of

traditionally used as a medicine for heartburn,
diarrhea, hemorrhoids, coughs, asthma, and
tropical forests. This rhizome can grow and

treatment of the diseases are the most alternative
therapies because of their various biological and
therapeutic properties. We conducted a limited
search of the Mendeley, ScienceDirect,
PubMed, NCBI, Research Gate, Google
Scholar, and other published databases of all
available literature from 2010-2020, using terms
related to Curcuma xanthorrhiza,
phytochemistry, and pharmacology. The
phytochemical content and pharmacological
activity of Curcuma xanthorrhiza provide a
solid basis for developing new treatments.
Phytochemically, this plant has been reported to
contain curcumin, essential oils, saponins,
flavonoids, alkaloids, and tannins.
Pharmacologically this plant is reported as
antibacterial, antimicrobial, anti-cancer, anti-
fungal, anti-acne, and antioxidant.

TRADITIONAL USE
The dried curcuma rhizome, when
brewed with hot water, can cure liver and
bile disorders. If the rhizome is grated and
squeezed and then drunk, it can facilitate
bowel movements and increase breast milk.
