Organizations Participation in Giving Women Opportunity in Leadership Positions: Case of

UAE

The role of women’s participation in leadership cannot be overemphasized. Considering

that women constitute around 50 percent of the population, excluding women from leadership

roles implies that society missing out on opportunities that can be created by half of its human

capital. In light of this, the United Arab Emirates [UAE] requires its corporations to implement

measures of promoting women’s participation in leadership positions. Organizations in the UAE

participate in promoting women’s leadership through the provision of education and training,

employment, mentorship, and the creation of opportunities for women’s leadership positions.

Organizations in the UAE play a major role in ensuring that women occupy various

leadership positions. Women leadership is promoted at the national level, and this has the

potential of encouraging more women to seek leadership roles. 50 percent of the Federal

National Council’s seats are occupied by women per the requirements of the late H.H. Sheikh

Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (The UAE Government, 2022). Women’s representation at the

national level is an indication of the government’s commitment to promoting women’s

leadership.

In addition, organizations in the UAE provide leadership programs that aim at equipping

women with vital leadership skills. Importantly, this training is essential in providing women

with valuable competencies that match the needs of various corporations in the UAE. For

example, the Dubai Women Establishment [DWE] (2019), provides women with leadership

training on four key modules, namely: leadership, technical knowledge, personal development,

and management acumen. The training plays a crucial role in empowering women and ensuring

they have the necessary skills to lead in various sectors of society.

Financial organizations also play a leading role in promoting women’s leadership in the

UAE. The provision of financing opportunities for women-owned or led businesses empowers

women enabling them to take leadership positions in various sectors. Sophia (2021) notes that

the Abu Dhabi Global Market and the International Finance Corporation have launched

initiatives to support women-led start-ups across the emirate and MENA region. The financial

opportunities will complement other initiatives by government agencies to promote women’s

leadership.

In conclusion, organizations in the UAE are implementing various measures for women’s

women leadership. To achieve this goal, the organizations provide women with training on

leadership skills effectively empowering them to lead. They also provide women with

opportunities to occupy leadership positions, which inspires other women to exercise leadership

and aspire to lead. Lastly, financial organizations empower women in leadership by financing

their enterprises. Government and private organizations’ efforts to women’s leadership will

enable the UAE to create equal leadership opportunities for all genders.
