The importance of mental health and things you should know about it

According to research, it is shown that 1 in 4 people suffer from mental illness? The solution to
the problem that is growing so widely due to social media influence could be reduced by giving
awareness about mental health to the common people. It will ease identification and early
treatment for us. It could be our father, mother, son, daughter, neighbor, friend, or even
ourselves.
It is widely ignored that early intervention can help our loved one receive appropriate care. As a
result, the recovery is faster and they will be back on the track to a good life.

Know about the help services

If a loved one is experiencing some issues and you know for fact they need to see a professional,
you should know how to access the common services available in many countries? We found
that out of 176 people, 50% had no access to mental health services because they were unaware
of how to do access it. Simply get yourself educated to prevent certain tragedies.

Some common hindrances that occur;

In many cases, people may not access these services because it is difficult due to cultural or
language barriers. And only desiring a treatment does not treat your mental health condition you
need to make effort to be dependent on your friends and family members.
Because, "Mental illness cannot be treated by simple desire, treatment is necessary".

Advantages of Awareness

Awareness also eliminates stigma for us. Because, once we are aware of their limitations and
strengths, it does not bother us anymore.
For example, God forbid! Let’s just say, your daughter was just diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Would you like those around your comment, “she is crazy, lock her up.” Stigma refers to the
opinions and thoughts of the community.

Awareness can also create new improvements for the mentally ill. It can produce a flow of
attention on people with mental issues neutralize stigmas and creates perspective. It can lead to
improvements in policy, research, and service development.

What can we do in this cause?

Make this issue a priority, preach it, spread it, and advocate people about the feelings that they
are afraid of. If we raise more awareness, the demands may increase and can result in more
funding for our needs.

Myths about mental health

Besides, there is a great misconception for the mentally ill. Many think these people are lazy or
just making it up. There is also the attitude that these people are either crazy, possessed by
demons, violent, out of control, or unsafe. Imagine, someone, labeling you the child of a demon
just because you are different than others.

NOTE;
Mental health awareness should not only be for a day or two or even a month. Its a lifetime
struggle for the people that need it more than anything in this world; love and support

Understanding Depression

As technology progresses, we find many disturbing facts that are caused by the use of modern
technology. The Internet is full of information but you may easily get misinformed as there are
no censors for which information is authentic and which is not. The same is true for mental
health awareness, kids these days think that they depressed all the time, like it’s something that is
considered so minor these day that the person who is experiencing it leave unattended.

So, let us understand a major part of mental health;

What is Depression?

Depression (major depressive disorder) is a common and serious medical illness that affects how
you feel, the way you think, and how you act not in a good way. It intensifies a certain negative
emotion could be sadness or anger and creates mood swing that could explain your sudden
overreaction to small things and you justifies it by saying it not small. Fortunately, it is also
treatable. As said before, depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in
activities once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can
decrease a person’s ability to function at work and at home.

Difference between depression and sadness

The death of a loved one, loss of a job, or the ending of a relationship are difficult experiences
for a person to endure. It is normal for feelings of sadness or grief to develop in response to such
situations. However, these feelings could be mistaken as depression.
But being sad is not the same as having depression. The grieving process is natural and unique to
each individual. Both grief and depression may involve intense sadness and withdrawal from
usual activities. They are also different in important ways:

 Grief usually comes and goes after you had your moments but depression does not leave
you for days and weeks. It stuck with you like a piece of sticky gum.
 In grief, self-esteem is maintained. In major depression, feelings of worthlessness and
self-loathing are common.
 For some people, the death of a loved one can bring on major depression. Losing a job or
being a victim of a physical assault or a major disaster can lead to depression for some
people. When grief and depression co-exist, it is more severe and lasts longer than grief
without depression.
