Money Matters

Good Financial Steward

Before we start let’s pray

“Heavenly Father, we come to you in awe of your goodness and faithfulness to us. You reign overall and
you are the one who brings light and clarity in our lives. Thank you for the opportunity to celebrate
another day in your presence Lord.
I pray that today as we hear your Word for us, may you reveal to us your plans and the direction that we
should take, specially in the aspect of finances. Holy Spirit, lead us and help us bring glory and honor to
our Lord Jesus Christ.
this we pray In Jesus Name, Amen”

Intro
Goodmorning po sa lahat!

The past few weeks we’ve been in the series called Money Matters and have discussed the importance of
Money in our lives and the ministry.

It's important to talk about money because the Bible mentions money more than 500 times. It talks about
how to use it, how to save it, and how to give it away.

Let’s have a look in a verse

Luke 16:11 New King James Version

11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your
trust the true riches?

Pastor Vlad Asked this

What if how you handle your finances has a lot to do with how much God can trust you with true
Spiritual Riches?

Diba gusto natin ng spiritual riches, maging mayaman tayo sa spiritual life natin, to be rich in the favor,
spiritual gifts and blessings of God.

that’s why our topic today is titled

GOOD FINANCIAL STEWARD

let’s define what it means to be a steward.

The Oxford Dictionary defines the word steward as (to) manage or look after (another’s property). Many
of us are familiar with the stewards on a plane, train, or ship. These are persons employed for the express
purpose of tending to the passengers.

If we are to understand the role of a biblical steward, we will have to go back to the beginning.

Then the LORD God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and there he placed the man he had
made.

The LORD God made all sorts of trees grow up from the ground—trees that were beautiful and
that produced delicious fruit. In the middle of the garden, he placed the tree of life and the tree of
the knowledge of good and evil.

The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. Genesis 2:8-9,15
NLT

Let’s zoom in on Genesis 2:15. The word translated as “tend” is the Hebrew word ʻâbad, (pronounced aw-
bad’). ʻÂbad means to work (in any sense). It could also be used, by implication, as to serve or to be a
husbandman.

The word translated as “watch over” is the Hebrew word shâmar, (pronounced shaw-mar’) which means
to hedge about (as with thorns), i.e. guard. Shâmar is also used generally to mean to protect, attend to,
watch, protect, or save.

We can see right away that the role Adam was given was an important one. God created a beautiful,
fruitful garden and made Adam responsible to care for it.

Biblical stewardship is caring for something that doesn’t belong to us but for which we are responsible.

TEND - ʻÂbad means to work

WATCH OVER - Shâmar is also used generally to mean to protect, attend to, watch, protect, or save.

As you can see, God can bless, he really can. He can give us not just what we need but also what we
want.

but ang gusto ni Lord, we know how to tend and watch over what we have right now, so he can bless us
with true riches.

Let’s look in to the Parable of Talents in Matthew 25:14-30 NKJV

14 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants
and delivered his goods to them. 15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another
one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. 16 Then he who
had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. 17 And
likewise he who had received two gained two more also. 18 But he who had received one went and
dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants came
and settled accounts with them.

20 “So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you
delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ 21 His lord said to
him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you
ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ 22 He also who had received two talents
came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides
them.’ 23 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a
few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’

24 “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man,
reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 And I was
afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’

26 “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap
where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. 27 So you ought to have
deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with
interest. 28 So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.

29 ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who
does not have, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the
outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Let’s look at what this context say:

1. The lord of the servants gave to each according to their ability – v. 15

2. The servants worked based on their ability to handle wealth – v. 16 – 18

3. The time came when they settled accounts with their lord – v. 19

4. The those who produced results were rewarded and the lord was pleased with them– v. 20-
23

5. For the servant who complained and didn’t produce results, the lord took the talent from
him, was called Wicked and Lazy, and was severely punished. -v28-30

If you want to be a Good Financial Steward, you have to remember a few things

1. Develop your ability to handle wealth

-Wag puro sanaol, if possible remove that on you mindset.
-You need to be someone who makes things happen not someone who just wishes things
to happen.
- Learn to invest, Learn how to earn on the side so you wont be reliant on your salary.

2. Work with what you have

mo?

Don’t look for something that you don’t have, utilize everything that you already have.
Why?

Example: Moses
Exodus 4: 1-4 NIV
Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The Lord did
not appear to you’?”

2 Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?”

“A staff,” he replied.

3 The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.”

Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it. 4 Then the Lord
said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took
hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. 5 “This,” said the Lord, “is so
that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the
God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”

3. Do your best to produce result

Don’t just be wishful, you cannot just pray and wait.

4. DO NOT BE LAZY

God cannot entrust you with true riches if you’re lazy.

I have been observing the difference of people who are wealthy and ordinary people like us.

the only difference I see is how they make use of their brain. Di sila tamad mag isip. Ginagamit
nila ung kung anong meron sila. At ano un? Brain. They feed their brain with the right things.
They read, connect with people that will help them, they’re intentional with their actions.

No!

it is about what you do, Do not be lazy

Proverbs 12:24
24 Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.

Proverbs 13:4
4 A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.

Proverbs 14:23
23 All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.
sinasabi diba?

Proverbs 10:4-5
Lazy hands bring poverty, but hard-working hands lead to wealth. Whoever harvests
during summer acts wisely, but the son who sleeps during harvest is disgraceful.

5. Walk in Faith not Fear

Matthew 25: 16-17

16 Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another
five talents. 17 And likewise he who had received two gained two more also.

They knew that their lord was shrewd, they knew that their lord could be tricking them and they
could respond in fear as well. But they did it by faith. They walked by faith,

Nakipag kalakalan sila gamit ang pera ng katakot takot na master nila, but because they took
faith,

tandaan niyo, both Faith and Fear has a result

the question here is what results do you want?

Same dito sa 2 servants who operated in faith? Or the other servant who operated in fear?

Conclusion

Matthew 25:19
19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.

The Lord will come to settle accounts with us.

The Lord has given us all the ability, and you will take account on that when the Lord
comes

Will the Lord see you as someone who is faithful?
