ORGANIZING:
It is a management function which relates to the structuring of resources and activities to accomplish
objectives.

Reasons for Organizing:


A primary reason for organizing is to have each member know what activities he is to perform. Hence,
organizing is undertaken to facilitate the implementation of plans.

The Organizational Structure and Its Determinants:


The structure is the means by which the organization will attain its objectives and goals. It must follow
a strategy, which defines the specific means of realizing goals. The size of the entire organization and
its various units will also determine the kind of structure that will have to be adapted.

The Determinants of an Organization Structure:


1. Strategy or plans for achieving the company’s objective
2. Technology that will be used in carrying out the strategy
3. People employed at all levels and their functions, and
4. Size of the organization

The Formal Organization Informal Groups/Organization


1. Organization Chart 1. Friendship
2. Organization Manual 2. Common interest
3. Policy Manual 3. Proximity
4. Need satisfaction
5. Collective power
6. Group goals

Levels of Management and Supervision

1. Flat Structure – has few levels of management.

Advantages: communication is generally faster


Disadvantages: require managers with experience in the various tasks

2. Tall Structure – has many levels of management.

Advantages: the span of control is narrow


Disadvantages: communication ends to be slower, activity slower and less accurate
