PREFACE
At its meeting in Bournemouth, UK in September 1993, the Commission, on the
recommendation of Committee 4, established a Task Group to prepare a comprehensive
report on the principles for the protection of workers from ionising radiations. The Task
Group was specifically requested to develop guidance on the implementation of the principles
in ICRP Publication 60, to review critically Publication 28 (The Principles and General
Procedures for Handling Emergency and Accidental Exposures of Workers) and Publication
35 (General Principles of Monitoring for Radiation Protection of Workers) and specifically
to update and replace Publication 35. The Task Group also took specific account of those
parts of Publication 65 (Protection Against Radon-222 at Home and at Work) that deal with
exposure to radon at work. The report was prepared for Committee 4 by a Task Group with
the following membership:
J.-C. Nenot (Chairman)
R. Coates
P. Hedemann Jensen
C. J. Huyskens (1993-1994)
M. P. Measures
A. D. Wrixon
The membership of Committee 4 during the preparation of this report was:
D. Beninson (Chairman)
B. C. Winkler (Vice-Chairman)
A. D. Wrixon (Secretary)
D. Cool
R. M. Duncan
A. Gonzalez
R. Hock
C. J. Huyskens
T. Kosako
K. Lokan
F. Luykx
J.-C. N&rot
Z. Pan
K. C. Pillai
A. Richardson
A. Sugier
K. Ulbak
J. Valentin
The report was adopted for publication by the Commission in 1997.

Aims and Scope
Founded in 1928, the International Commission on Radiological Protection has, since 1950,
been providing general guidance on the widespread use of radiation sources caused by
developments in the field of nuclear energy.
The reports and recommendations of the ICRP are available in the form of a review journal,
Annals of the ICRP. Subscribers to the journal will receive each new report as soon as it
appears, thus ensuring that they are kept abreast of the latest developments in this important
field, and can build up a complete set of ICRP reports and recomrnendations.
Single issues of the journal are available separately for those individuals and organizations
who do not require a complete set of all ICRI'publications, but would like to have their own
copy of a particular report covering their own field of interest. Please order through your
bookseller, subscription agent or, in case of difficulty, direct from the publisher.
