FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT OF BADMINTON

Badminton is a sports game in which two players or two teams consisting of

to the territory of the opponent in such a way that he or she cannot hit it. To score a
point, the shuttlecock must touch the opponent's area.
Badminton Facilities

 Doubles: 44 feet long by 22 feet wide,

 Singles: 44 feet long by 17 feet wide

Back-court

 Also called “Rear Court”. The back-court is 8 ft. of the court, including the back
alley.

Back Boundary Line and Long Service Line for Singles

 The middle third of the court from the short service line to the back third, a
distance of about 7 ½ ft.

Service Shot

 Area into where the service must be declined. A service may be made to the
right or left service court depending on the score.

Badminton Equipment

1. Racket
 a lightweight piece used by players in the game of badminton.
 made up of a circular handle, a shaft, and a stringed head.
Additional Info:

The head of the racket is composed of a light

frame made of either aluminum, steel, or graphite, while
the string is typically made of nylon or synthetic material.
The shaft and handle are usually made of wood or
carbon fiber and often feature a grip to help the player
control the racket.

A racket must follow the specifications laid by the

BWF (Badminton World Federation). According to BWF
specifications, the string length cannot be more than
27.94 cm and its width can’t be more than 20.9 cm. The full length of a racket cannot
be more than 68 cm and the width cannot be more than 23 cm.

PARTS OF THE RACKET

 Stringed Area – is extended to hit the shuttle. It is of uniform pattern and

does not exceed 280 mm. (11 in.) in length and 220 mm. in width.
 Head– bounds the stringed area.
 Throat – connects the shaft to the head.
 Shaft – connects the handle to the head
 Ferrule – firmly connects the shaft and the handle.
 Handle – is intended for a player’s grip
 Butt – is located at the tip of the handle
 Frame – includes the head, the throat, the shaft and the handle. It is no
more than 680 mm. or wider than 230 mm.
2. Shuttlecock
 the object that is hit back and forth over the net
 the primary tool used in badminton

Two types:

 Plastic shuttlecocks are more durable and long-lasting than the commonly
used feather type. Plastic shuttlecocks are likely to travel short distances
because of their heaviness, but they are ideal for building strength.
 Feather shuttlecocks are made with bird feathers. It offers high aerodynamic
lift than the plastic ones. A shuttlecock is formed from 16 or so overlapping
feathers, usually goose or duck, embedded into a rounded cork base.

Standard dimension of Shuttlecock Size

The shuttlecocks whether made of plastics or feathers have a standard dimension.

 Overall, it weighs around 4.75 to 5.50 grams.

 The feathers of a badminton shuttlecock measure 62 to 70 mm in length.
 The radius of the cork is around 11.5 to 14 mm.
 The diameter of the circle created by the feathers framing is around 58 to
68 mm.

3. Badminton Net
 one of the most important pieces of equipment
 Without a net at the right height and with the right width, the game of
badminton becomes diluted.
Badminton net dimensions in feet

 Total width: 20 ft
 Total height at the posts: 5 ft 1 inch
 Total height at the center: 5 ft
 Net height: 2 ft 6 inch
4. Apparel
 The overall sportswear worn by the players, this includes clothes, shoes,
and accessories.
 Sportswear should be as comfortable as possible considering it has an
important bearing on a player's game performance. In addition, in
professional play, there may be specific regulations regarding clothing.

5. Scoreboard
 It is a display board showing the current score and game progression.
Moreover, scoreboards keep players and spectators informed about the
ongoing match, allowing everyone to stay engaged and follow the competition
accurately.
6. Badminton Poles Or Post
 A slender, steel pole that comes with a hook and a sliding collar to adjust
net tension and a plastic grooved cap to ensure accurate net height.
 The groove is wide enough for a second cable to allow the pole to be
used as a common center post to hold 2 nets.
