1 - Pinang Martime Safety

PINANG MARITIME SAFETY – SOP - 1


This SOP is to maximize safety at sea during guests' stay on Pinang Island. Staff are regularly trained
on these procedures to know how to handle emergency situations and avoid any accident and
possible rescue.

1. Checking the boat before departure



- check the whole boat for any damage or water in the hull. Check the engines for signs of
damage or oil dripping, check the navigation is working
- check that the boat has enough fuel for the subsequent trip
- go through the checklist and make an entry in the logbook

2. Weather forecast

- check the weather forecast, wind, radar for clouds and storms before setting sail. The skipper
will assess the situation. In case of uncertainty, the General Manager must be consulted

3. Logbook

- fill in the logbook properly before setting sail. Where you are going, how many people you
are carrying and when you are scheduled to return and confirm by signature that you have
completed all the actions associated with the departure according to SOP.1 and the checklist

4. Radio VHF

- before setting sail, check the VHF radio connection with the island and check the batteries
are charged and arrange a canal for communication

5. Logbook and checklist

- complete the checklist before each ride and confirm completion in the logbook

6. during the cruise

- report by radio any undesirable facts and malfunctions


- to report medical accidents during activities
- report a change of sailing if the skipper decides to go to another surf spot
- report the start of the trip back to the island
- in the event of bad weather, report regularly on the status and possible anchorage at another
island

7. emergency

- in case of an accident, capsize, man overboard, activate emergency mode and call SOS signal
by radio and inform general manager
- in the event of a sinking boat, make sure everyone is wearing life jackets
- SOS must be activated on Garmin InReach, which will send out a message with the location to
rescue services and Pinang emergency contacts
- The Ocean Signal PLB3 transmitter must be activated and armed. The antenna will be rolled
out and the light will flash to confirm the transmitted signal
- the important thing is to stay together and wait for help to be summoned
- use the handheld radio to maintain contact and report the current situation
- in the event of engine failure, radio the island, which will send help
- in the event of an accident, use first aid and radio for follow-up assistance

8. regular staff training on maritime safety

- every 3 months, staff are regularly trained on safety at sea and first aid. Spot checks and
rechecks are also possible to ensure the highest possible quality compliance
- Each employee certifies by his/her signature that he/she has been properly trained on the
form - Martime safety training protocol

MARITIME SAFETY - CHECKLIST


check that all instruments are on board the boat and in working order with no obvious damage

Check the condition of the vessel and engines

Check the number and condition of lifejackets for all passengers

Check the 100% charge of the GARMIN INREACH

Check the VHF radio connection to the island
