STANDARD MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE FOR CALIBRATION / MAINTENANCE OF PRESSURE TRANSMITTERS

AES-AES-0110-OFD-GEN-INC-003-012

1. GENERAL
Amguri Field processing facility is provided with various instruments for monitoring and
controlling the process so that the production is maintained in an optimum manner and hazards
due to process upsets are kept in a controlled state.
These instruments are provided with static equipment as well as moving machinery. These
instruments also act as protective devices for the moving machinery and shut down the
machinery during abnormal operating condition. Many devices provide indications of machinery
distress also before the failure condition can occur.
2. PURPOSE
The purpose of this SMP is for Calibration / Maintenance of Pressure Transmitters.

3. SCOPE
This SMP is applicable to Pressure Transmitters at Amguri-EPS, AM#05, AM#14, AM#08
Onshore terminal well pads or as applicable.
4. ORGANIZATION AND RESPONSIBILITY

Designation Responsibility

Installation Manager 1. To have the primary information of the

Job.
2. To give instruction to production
engineer, Instrumentation Engineer
and HSE officer regarding the work.

Health and Safety Officer 1. To ensure that proper permit & other
safety related documents are issued.
2. Ensure that unsafe or hazardous acts
are not at all entertained during the
whole work.

Instrumentation Engineer 1. Plan, organize, control and supervise

the Job.
2. Organize manpower.
3. Coordinate with Production team.

Production Engineer 1. Provide PTW for maintenance work

2. Monitor the work.

Instrument Technician 1. Obtain the PTW for the job.

2. Follow the procedure and execute the
work.
3. Arrange equipment, tools and
resources to complete the job.
4. Prepare the PM documents.

5. HEALTH & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

5.1 Safety Aspects
a) All job to be carried out under work to permit system. Obtain a work permit prior
to commencing work.

b) Use appropriate personal protective equipment while performing the work and
adhere to permit to work system 3 Use appropriate tools & tackles.

c) Ensure all tools / tackles & equipment properly secured while performing the job.

d) Ensure that required instrument/ equipment is properly isolated & completely

depressurised before starting of job. Depressurisation should be at controlled rate.

e) Ensure that the activity is carried out buddy system pattern. Isolate the gas/ liquid
system in case of emergency

5.2 Environmental Aspects

a) Used or faulty electronic card, computer consumables (Tape, CDs, DVDs) are stored
temporarily at designated waste bins and finally disposed as per Waste
Management Plan.

b) Used / faulty batteries (Cells, Lithium batteries) are stored temporarily at

designated waste bins and finally disposed as per Waste Management Plan.

c) Used non-functional spares and consumables (scrapped cable, wires, PVC material,
tubing & fittings, junction box, etc) are stored temporarily at designated waste bins
and finally disposed as per Waste Management Plan.

d) Store waste paper, cardboards and packing materials generated in the nearby
designated dust bins.

e) Glasses of damaged/ faulty gauges are stored temporarily at designated waste bins
and finally disposed as per Waste Management Plan.

f) Empty aerosol cans are stored temporary at designated waste bins & puncher it
before sending for final disposal as per the Waste Management plan.

g) Ensure that drip tray/ container is in place to collect any spillage/ leakage of
condensate, oil, etc during draining/ depressurisation which are disposed into the

CCD, stormceptor & wiped with cotton waste.

h) Wipe oil with cotton waste. Used/ oil-soaked cotton waste is stored temporarily at
designated waste bins and finally disposed as per Waste Management Plan.
i) Thorough check of hand pumps / calibrators is carried out before calibration.
Collect any hydraulic oil spills in drip tray/ container & disposed as per Waste
Management Plan.

6. TASK/ ACTIVITY/ PROCEDURE

The procedure is used for Calibration / Maintenance of Pressure Transmitter.
6.1 Pressure Transmitter
The procedure is used during Calibration / Maintenance of Pressure Transmitter.

a) Take the clearance from process. Override the trip logic if transmitter is connected
to any trip system.

b) Isolate the Pressure Transmitter from field.

c) Slowly open the vent plug and bleed off the trap pressure at control rate by slow
opening vent valve.

d) Note down the zero reading in HART (PV, mA). Take Field & Flow computer reading
in case of metering skid’s pressure transmitter.

e) Connect Pressure calibrator or Deadweight tester to the pressure transmitter.

f) Apply pressure to transmitter and check for any leakage. If pressure is not holding,
then check leakage at fittings and calibrator.

g) After pressure is holding properly then apply pressure at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%
of transmitter range & note down the readings. After that note down the all above
readings in decreasing trend.

h) Calculate the error and compare with allowable limit.

i) If noted readings are coming within acceptable limit then instrument calibration is
okay. If calibration is okay, then go-to step (o). Otherwise continue step (j).

j) If readings are not within acceptable limit, then zero and span calibration required.
Go-to calibration then sensor calibration menu in HART.

k) For zero calibration release the pressure and wait for stabilization of the reading.
Then go-to the sensor trim in HART and then go-to zero trim. After steady reading
press zero trim.

l) For Span calibration apply 100% of range and wait for stabilization of the reading.
Then go-to the sensor trim in HART and then go-to span trim. After steady reading

press span trim.

m) After doing zero and span adjustment, again check reading at 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%
and 100% of transmitter range. Also check and note down the all above readings in
decreasing trend.

n) Calculate the error and compare with allowable limit.

o) After completion of the same, release the pressure from the calibrator.

p) Connect the process connection to transmitter if removed.

q) Take it in line. Also check for any leakage. Normalise the trip override if applicable.

r) Inform to control room to check the transmitter value according with the process
parameters after calibration.

7. ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA
a) No leakage from the system. Normalise the trip override if applicable.
b) The transmitter should deliver the accuracy as per following.
a. Pressure / DP Transmitter: - +/- 1.0 % Span.

8. RECORDS
a) Maintenance activity shall be entered into Maintenance Management system as
applicable.

b) Inspection details and measured values shall be recorded.

c) Calibration Report shall be prepared for all the transmitters which are calibrated.
The report shall provide details of valid Certificates of standard calibrators.

9. REPLACEMENT (e.g., Spares/Software)

Any replacement parts must be from Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or equivalent
only.
10. REPLACEMENT
None.
