IV. PROCEDURES

A. Introduction REMINDER: Answer ONLY. Write all your answers in a sheet/s of paper.
To help you understand better some important concepts in the
structure of chromosomes, do this word search puzzle activity.

Activity 1: Word Search Puzzle. Find and encircle in horizontal vertical

and diagonal positions for the words in the box above the puzzle. As you
find the word, look for its meaning and write it on the space provided
before each number.

______1. An observable characteristic determined by genes.

______2. These are structures within the cells that contain a
person’s gene.
______3. A unit of heredity responsible for determining some
characteristics which is transferred from a parent to offspring.
______4. A membrane-bound organelle in the cell that contains
chromosomes.
______5. The position or location of a gene on a chromosome.
______6. These are different forms of the same gene which are
located on the same part of the chromosome.
______7. It contains the genetic code of the organisms.
______8. It is a structure in a chromosome that joins together
the sister chromatids.
______9. The passing on of a characteristic/ trait genetically
from one generation to the next.
______10. It is a protein which provides support to a
chromosome.

Learning Task 1: Examine the sample problem given on page 20 of your

module.Use the same genotypes to determine the offspring's of the
crosses between XbY male and female with XbXb . Find the genotypes,
phenotypes, genotypic and phenotypic ratio of the offspring.

Learning Task 2: Read the handout about exploring snapdragon on page

21 of your module. Answer the guide questions.
Guide Questions :
1. State Non-Mendellian`s Law of Inheritance.
2. What are the two alleles for flower color in snapdragon?

Learning Task 3: Given the genotypes and phenotypes of flower color for
P and F1, solve for the genotypes and phenotypes of F2 generation.
Study the example found on page 22 of your module.

Offspring with corresponding %

F2 Offspring with corresponding %
B. Development Learning Task 4: Answer the following questions.
Guide Questions
1. Based on the results of the genetic crosses , why do you think the red
and white flower alleles can “interact with one another? Explain both the
F1 and F2 generations.
2. How are the results of the crosses differ if the red allele was dominant
over the white allele? Explain both the F1 and F2 generations.
C. Engagement Learning Task 5: Read and understand the pattern of inheritance in
multiple alleles on page 23 of your module.
Guide Question
1. Based on the results of the genetic crosses you have shown, how do
you think the red and white flower alleles can “interact with one another?
Explain both the F1 and F2 generations.
2. How are the results of the crosses differ if the red allele was dominant
over the white allele? Explain both the F1 and F2 generations.

Activity 2: A. Identify what is asked. Use a separate sheet of paper for

D. Assimilation
your answers.

1. It is another form of inheritance in which the alleles of a gene pair in a

heterozygote offspring are fully expressed or exhibited.
2. It is a specific gene pair that is controlled by more than two alleles.
3. The blended traits that are coded by two alleles inherited from both
parents.
4. A Non Mendelian inheritance that governed the ABO Blood group
system.
5. It is the expression of intermediate traits in a heterozygous individual
or offspring.

B.Identify the type of Non-Mendelian Inheritance is related to the

following characteristics.
1. Pink snapdragons resulted from blending of red and white alleles.
2. Blood type AB
3. Coat colors in rabbits
4. ABO Blood system in human
5. Roan cow that has both the red and white hairs

Learning Task 6: Create a family tree showing the F1 and F2

generations of your mother and father side. Describe the dominant traits
that appear in both families. Illustrate your answer in your answer sheet.
