Teresa Ferraris Magbanua was born on October 13, 1868 in Pototan, Iloilo.
Dubbed as the “Visayan Joan of Arc”, Nanay Isa was a school teacher and became
a military leader. She’s the first woman in Panay to fight in the Philippine
Revolution and earned the distinction of being the only woman to lead combat
troops in the Visayas against Spanish and American forces.

Adriano Dayot Hernandez was born on September 8, 1870 in Dingle, Iloilo. He was
a Filipino revolutionary and military strategist during the Philippine Revolution and
Philippine-American War.

Quintin Salas was born October 31, 1870 in Dumangas, Iloilo. He was a
revolutionary leader is among the last Visayan revolutionist to surrender to the
Americans.

Arevalo- Established on 1581 by Gobernador Ronquillo de Peñalosa as “La Villa Rica de Arevalo”, named after his
hometown Arévalo, Spain, it is one of the first places in the Philippine archipelago to be named in Spanish. It became the capital of the

JUAN A. ARANETA - He was Capitan Municipal of Bago, Negros Occidental. He imprisoned in January 1897 for
suspicion of supporting the insurrection against Spain. On November 5, 1898, he raised the Philippine flag and
proclaimed the Republic of Negros. However, realizing the destruction of Iloilo by U.S. forces now fighting Filipinos,
he accepted American sovereignty.
RAMON AVANCENA - during the revolution, he formed a committee whose main objective was to drive the
Spaniards out of Panay and the neighboring islands. He also organized a provincial revolutionary government in Sta.
Barbara, Iloilo.

FRANCISCO DEL CASTILLO - After recruiting a substantial number of members for Katipunan, Del
Castillo was elected general of the revolutionary forces of Aklan. On March 17, 1897, he led his men to
Kalibo. The Spanish officials and guardia civiles, who were barricaded inside the house of the town mayor,
fired at Del Castillo's group. Del Castillo was fatally wounded and died that same day.

DOMINGO T. FRANCO – he was born from Mambusao, Capiz and he followed Rizal's order to keep in his
care the papers of La Liga Filipina, a group that wanted changes in the government. When the revolution
erupted, he was arrested and jailed in Fort Santiago and together with 12 other compatriots, he was shot in
Bagumbayan

LEANDRO FULLON - He joined the Katipunan in 1896 under Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. He appointed
commander general in the Panay expedition. He led the troops that fought courageously against the
Americans in Sambag and Tacas, near Jaro, Iloilo. In 1901, he appointed provincial governor and became
a census supervisor for the Visayas in 1903.

CANDIDO IBAN - He joined the Katipunan and donated his lottery winnings for the setting up of a printing
press, where Katipunan's Kalayaan, kartilla and forms were printed. He returned to Capiz to organize a
Katipunan branch. On his way to Kalibo, he was arrested and jailed by the Spaniards.

NAZARIA LAGOS - She allowed the use of her house as a secret meeting place of the revolutionary
leaders of Iloilo. Her family's hacienda at Angaro was also used as a food and supply depot of the rebels.
She sewed the Philippine flag that was raised in the Dueñas town square on June 12, 1899, the first
anniversary of the proclamation of independence.

PASCUAL MAGBANUA - He staged guerrilla attacks against the Americans during the Filipino-American
war and strengthened the defense line from Balantang to Jibaoan in Iloilo.

TERESA MAGBANUA - She led a large group of men in the Battle of Barrio Yoting, Capiz in early
December 1898. She outfought the Spanish troops at the Battle of Sapong Hills near Sara.

QUINTIN SALAS - On October 28, 1898, he raised the cry for freedom in Dumangas, and liberated the
Iloilo towns of Barotac Nuevo, Pototan, Passi, and Banate. He confiscated enemy arms, ammunition, and
documents, then set the prisoners free.

PANTALEON VILLEGAS - He was a member of the Katipunan. He was more popularly known as Leon
Kilat. He led a revolutionary group in Panay and Negros Islands.
