NAME: GLORIDEL TUMANDA LUMBA

ACTIVITY 1
YEAR: 3RD YEAR

1. Compare and contrast the traditional concept of literacy to the modern view of
literacy.

Traditional Concept of Literacy, It only requires the basic abilities Speaking,

hearing, writing, and listening to a language.B. Modern View of Literacy, t requires higher
comprehension in reading and writing and a level of communication to strengthen the
context. They both require how to read and write.

2. Describe the changes in the 21st century that have led to the rise of new
literacies.

The changes in the 21st century that have led to the rise of the new literacies are
the technologies and social media power. People back then use the traditional long words
to describe something but now the words are more shorten. To know the news, before, they
need to buy newspapers or listen to the radio or the television, but now, it is posted on
every social media site. People before focused on isolated skills(listening, speaking,
writing, hearing) but now, it is more of the three models: interpersonal, interpretive, and
presentational. It also gave the opportunity for the people to have a two way
communication where they can share their insights about the subject of the literacy.

3. With a partner of a triad, brainstorm and answer this question: What teaching
strategies and forms of assessment could you use to help develop functional
literacy?

Teachers can help their students understand what they are reading by employing
literacy tactics. Look at how forming connections, picturing, asking questions, drawing
conclusions, determining importance, and synthesizing affect reading abilities. In order to
answer this specific question, these two have a significant impact on the development of
functional literacy through the use of literacy strategies. Reading research shows that
proficient readers employ a variety of strategies to interpret what they read. These are
sometimes known as literacy tactics or making meaning. The same study has
demonstrated that proficient readers employ particular reading techniques that
demonstrate their comprehension or understanding of the text they are reading. Making
connections, picturing, inferring, questioning, deciding importance, and synthesizing are
six of these techniques. Let's examine these six literacy techniques' effects on reading
comprehension in more detail.
