PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR SCHOOL INTRAMURALS 2023

I. PROJECT : SCHOOL INTRAMURALS 2023

DATE : September 29, 2023
TIME : 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
VENUE : As Indicated

II. Rationale
Sport and play present limitless education and learning opportunities. Sport encourages
ongoing education in skill and personal development. Athletes who learn how to perform better also
learn how to be better teammates. They work to get the most out of their experience. Coaches and
sport administrators constantly learn, grow and engage in educational processes with athletes and
peers. Through self-reflection sport administrators strive to grow their teams and organizations. In
sport and play there is a clear purpose and role for education and the learning process for all
stakeholders.

Wolf and Hums (2016) states that sports and play promotes social change by utilizing sport
as a platform to advance social change. Sport and play create equal access and equal opportunity for
all, and help eliminate discrimination, violence and abuse. Further, sport and play leverage a
platform to advance social change in the areas of civil rights, human rights, peacebuilding and world
affairs. Critical and central to the purpose of sport and play, the social change dimension must be
celebrated and embraced in the global sporting arena rather than dismissed as anecdotal sidebars to
the role and purpose of sport and play

American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (2018) bats out that sports help
children develop physical skills, get exercise, make friends, have fun, learn teamwork, learn to play
fair, and improve self-esteem.

Moreover, Erikson was an American psychoanalyst specializing in child psychology. In his

most influential work, Childhood and Society (1950), he divided the human life cycle into eight
psychosocial stages of development. His later works deal with ethical concerns in the modern world
(Friedman, 1999).

It is indeed unquestionable that involvement to sports offers numerous benefits to children

and it can be a powerful tool in developing a healthy well-being of the young.

In fact, the Revised Department of Education, Culture, and Sports (DECS), now Department
of Education (DepEd) Sports Programs as per DECS Order No. 35, s. 1996 aims to improve and
widen the scope of the programme for Physical Education and Sports in the elementary and
secondary school. It is based on the universal principle that “Sports is For All” and is consonance
with the constitutional provision on sports development. The first provision of this order is that all
education institution shall provide all students the opportunities for regular sports participants in
order to develop health, physical fitness and values inherent in the practice of sports.

It is by this reason that the proponent seeks for the approval of the conduct of the school
intramurals for the learners to gain from its countless benefits.

III. Objectives
The objectives of the school intramurals are the following:
a. To conduct sporting events for the learners to participate in an Intramural ;
b. To develop the skills of the learners in the different sporting events;
c. To select qualified athletes for higher athletic meets;
d. To provide an avenue for self-esteem to be developed amongst the athletes;
e. To retool teachers of coaching and officiating in different sporting events.
