Talk 5 - GOING BACK TO BASIC

(ANG DATING DAAN)

RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP

 Whatever enterprises, the leader is responsible for the success or failure of the mission.
 Sometimes it is hard for a leader to accept what happens in the organization
 When a leader accepted his responsibility, the people could unite under him and as a team could
work together. All too often the leaders is tempted to pass the buck and rationalize.

Why do we talk about responsibility again?

Because handling a household, unit, etc, have also success and failure , WE ARE TO BE RESPONSIBLE
FOR THE RESULT!

The bible has something to say about this kind of rationalization. God holds people responsible for what
takes place in the rank. The leader is the prime means God uses to keep his people moving in the right
direction and doing the right thing. The one who leads the band must face the music.

Ex. Israelites picked manna even on Shabbath, a holy day. God scolded Moses. (Ex. 16:27-28) “How
long will you refuse to keep my commands and my instruction?”

Amazing! Had Moses broken the commandments? No! Some of the people did! But look whom the
Lord held responsible – the Leader! God wanted Moses to be on top of the situation so that the sins of the
people would not be due to the neglect or sloth in his part. He wanted the man he put in charge to be on
top on the situation.

JESUS DIED FOR THE SOULS GIVEN UNDER OUR CARE. WE SHOULD NOT LOOSE THEM, IT
WAS PREMIUM BLOOD THAT WAS SPILLED.

Therefore, battle rationalization.

 Sometimes, the problem is ourselves and not the others (vices, no commitment, etc.)
 Better conquer your self than the others, this is difficult because you are dealing with your own
corrupt, unruly, uncompromising spirit.
 If the leader falls to deal with his own sin, people who work with him will loose confidence.

Therefore, there are two things YOU ARE ACCOUNTABLE FOR:

 Your Households, (unit, chapter, etc.)
 Your negative attitudes
If we ignore what God tell us, we will suffer the consequences.

Areas Where Leaders would Accept Responsibility

 Correction
 Act Decisively
 Listen to Criticism (Whoever heeds correction shows prudence but he who hates correction will
die, (Prov. 15:5) Correction is a medicine that gives hope to the sick.
 Be honest – No one wants to be led by a liar. Persons in the ranks hate to be deceived.
 Be fair – “the Lord abhors dishonest scales … - No favoritism

1
 Don’t betray confidence ex. Mechanic who recommends overhaul instead of tune up was left for
another trustful mechanic. People look for another leader when confidence is betrayed.

BE A GROWING LEADER

Leader must make sure that they and the people under them are growing. One key to growth is spending
time with God’s word. If we crave for ambition, we must also crave for ambition, we must also crave for
the word of God. While wealth is sometimes not achieved, grace of wisdom is always available. The
cares of this world can sap our leader energy. Make time to pray. And read the scriptures daily.

In CFC, GROWTH IS NOT AN OPTION – IT IS A MUST!

The things we have to learn on being a Christian is still vital today. We still need to PRAY
but LONGER and MORE PASSIONATE. WE still need to obey God’s direction but more QUICKLY
AND COMPLETELY. You need to grow on a new level.

Morning Prayers and Bible reading are NOT ELECTIVES. THEY ARE REQUIRED!

BEING AN EXEMPLARY LEADER

Ex. Difficulty of assembling a toy even with an accompanying diagram. This is exactly what the people
of God need in learning the life of discipleship – SOMEONE ALONGSIDE TO DEMOSTRATIVE AND
HELP! (not just hand a manual) ex. THREAD cannot pushed it, it needs to be pulled but you lead it or
pull it to lead the thread.

People need to be shown HOW. Jesus taught the disciples to pray. In fact, he gave them a pattern.

Telling is not teaching and listening is not learning

√ Tell him what

√ Tell him why
√ Show him how
√ Help him get started
√ Help him keep going (take him by the hand and help him through)

Need for Continuing Examples

Not only new Christian need examples to follow. All Christians need a
 Continuing example of godly life lived to the glory of God. When leaders set set the kind of
example that Christ set, they gain love and respect. AS IRON SHARPENS IRON SO ONE MAN
SHARPENS ANOTHER (Prov. 27:17)
 It is difficult to speak to another about life of Joy and victory when you are living in defeat in a
crucial area of your life. (Ex. Monday na naman, meeting na naman; Oo nga, and hirap talaga ng
buhay! Hirap na hirap na ako!
 If leaders will take time to lead their people through the steps of discipleship, they will victorious
band of people, productive and motivated whose lives bring glory to God and blessing to those
around them.
o Our own lives are teaching, if lazy, the pattern is also lazy and people uffer down the line.
o Indoctrinate but also demonstrate.

BE AN INSPIRING LEADER

2
Story: Experience with anew, unknown barber not giving the right cut. He turned out to be the maestro
of the usual barber and who has 20 years of experience. Experienced yet did not ask to know the need.

No number of years in experience can prepare a person for every customer. (Every one has his own
needs. Sometimes we are very comfortable that we are for sometime now chapter heads, unit, household
heads and that we are good. WE ARE NOT GOOD IF WE DO NOT KNOW THE NEEDS OF OUR
MEMBERS! True to Christians, leaders need to make the people are growing.

THE NEW MEMBERS - need the pure milk of the word, lots of love, and sense of belonging.

HOUSEHOLD HEAD - special training to prepare for rigors of independent leadership.

CHAPTER HEAD - need the discipline of daily quite time, consistent bible study, help to witness,
introduced to a lifestyle of serving others.

UNIT HEAD - need to be grounded in the great doctrines of the faith deepened in their life of
consecration and holiness, sharpened in ministry skills, bring to bedrock of commitment, give talks.

Ad lib. Baka hanggang ngayon Blessing & Glory ka pa rin…

Ask: Why do you follow your household head?

Ans: He has Vision, Availability and Commitment.
What is our plan for our members?
Where will our household heads bring us?
Share how my HHH raise me to the point of following him as fulltime worker.

Qualities of a Good Leader

(Do we still have this or look for this?)

To maintain a high degree of motivation and morale, leaders must develop the people involved with them,
helping them reach their fullest potential.

HONESTY - speaking in free and unhindered honesty (correction)

LOYALTY - leaders standby and care for their people.
GENEROSITY - commends work that is well done, teach others to give / accept praise.
HUMILITY - leaders remember that God is doing the training in the lives of people.

God’s training program is running simultaneously with ours.

Inspiring leadership means our people know that if they don’t come to the assembly, YOU WILL COME
AND GET THEM!

Two Reasons Why We Will Be Absent in Prayer Meetings:

SICK OR DEAD! (not rule but attitude)

Share: Destiny of Blessing: be on the right time and right place.

Ad lib: When you were new household heads, YOU WERE INCREDIBLY INSPIRING in the way you
handle your members. Do people continue to say how inspiring you are with your efforts? Is the fire still
there?

 Inject information, but also impart inspiration

3
Two types of Shepherd / Household Leaders

• One who gathers and one who tenders.

We need to be nourished in the words of faith. We have unique problems.
 We need individual attention. THE KEY IS THE SHEPHERS NOT THE SHEEP.

What do shepherd need to know to keep the sheep HAPPY HEALTHY, PRODUCING AND
REPRODUCING?

1. Clear understanding of the basic needs of the sheep.

2. Diligence and drive to do whatever is necessary to meet the needs.

Prov. 27:23: “Be sure to know the condition of your flocks.

Give careful attention to your herds.”

Therefore, FIND OUT THE NEEDS and DO IT!

Acts 15:36 (Paul and Barnabas)

“Let us go back and visit the brothers in all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord
and see how they are doing.”

Acts: Are shepherds doing their job? Are they being fed?
“If so – high spirit; if not – hungry, weak, they fight and complain.”

Do HHH visit their members, UH their households, CH their units, CD their chapters – to see if they are
doing the right thing and going to right directions?

Too much is at stake – Salvation! (If we fall, salvation fails!)

Our “herds” has to GROW and MULTIPLY FOREVER!

This is the way the church grows – when they find life in the household.

Enemies of Pastoral Care

Self-centeredness - when thief or danger comes, hired hands will save self; the good
shepherd lays down his life.

Ignorance - Jeremiah 10:31: “The shepherd are senseless and not inquire of the
Lord. So, they do not prosper and all the flock is scattered.”

Shepherds are CHANNELS, therefore, WALK WITH THE LORD in the light of His work otherwise the
ministry is dead! (Site importance of prayer again so that the Chief Shepherd may be able to give
direction through it.) If we don’t study the WORD, we will never learn the needs of the sheep or minister
of their lives. The ignorance of the leaders will be a curse to the flock.

SHEPHERDING IS HARDWORK, IT’S TIME-CONSUMING AND TAXING BUT IT

MUST BE DONE!

Note: Talk may make pasturing sound very burdensome. End with encouragement.

4
End : Story of Jesus before HE went up to heaven, entrusting the flock to Peter:

“Do You love, FEED my SHEEPS, TEND my LAMBS.” (3x)

Feed with what: WORDS OF LIFE

Tend where : TO GATE OF SALVATION

Let us not be burdened by this work, this actually gives meaning to our lives – when the work of God is
being accomplished in our lives.
