located along the boundary between Intramuros and Port of Manila. It serves as a prominent gateway to the walled city. The monument was erected in honor of Simon de Anda y Salazar, formerly appointed Governor General of the Philippines from 1770 to 1776.
The design of the fountain
was patterned from the sun, symbolizing “Bagong Maynila” under the governance of newly elected Mayor Isko Moreno. The different levels and cascading stairs of the fountain also signifies the evolution of Manila through the years while still preserving its roots, culture, and history. The six primary rays of the sun represents its legislative districts, while the sixteen administrative districts are written on the paved walk.
Truly, the fountain is a true
reflection of New Manila - still looking grand while water continues to flow or is at standstill, through morning afternoon until night time.
