DEFINING SOCIAL SCIENCES

1. What is Social Science?


- Social Science is a field of study where we learn about the societies and
the relationships among individuals within these societies. It is also the
study of each person’s manner and behavior that influence and affect the
world around us.

2. What are the different branches of social sciences?


- There are 5 different branches of social sciences; Anthropology,
Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, and Economics

3. Who are the major proponents/ key personalities in the social sciences?
- Thomas Hobbes, Adam Smith, Auguste Comte, Emile Durkheim, and
Max Weber

4. What are the different research methods or tools used in the social sciences?
- Laboratory Experiments, Feld Surveys, Case Research, Ethnographic
Research, Action Research/Interviews, and Experimentation

5. Define anthropology, sociology, and political science.


- Anthropology: The study of the origin and development of human societies
and cultures. It has the goal of understanding our evolutionary origins, our
distinctiveness as species, and the great diversity in our forms of social
existence across the world and through time.
- Sociology: The study of social life, social change, and the life social
causes and consequences of human behavior.
- Political Science: The study of Politics and Power from domestic,
international, and comparative perspectives. It also deals with the systems
of governance and power, and the analysis of political activities, political
thought, political behavior, and associated constitutions and laws.
