System engineering – data flow

Engineering
Process

■ Configure data flow for client server communication

– Configure reports and required datasets
– Pre-configure a client for the report through a client LN
(mandatory for buffered reports, optional for unbuffered reports)
■ Configure data flow for publish – subscriber services
– Configure GOOSE and SMV controls and required datasets
– Optionally configure subscribing IEDs
■ Configure inputs to LNs
– Data required as inputs can be transmitted by GOOSE / SMV or
as reports
– If both are available, it is up to the IED to decide which one to
use

File management
Engineering
Process

■ The .ssd file and .icd file are input to the system
configuration tool
■ The .scd file can be considered as a single source of the
configuration description
– The .scd file can include IED specific configuration information in
a private section
– The .scd file has a version and a revision identification that
needs to be maintained by the tool or by the user
■ Information from IED detail engineering may be added to
the global .scd file
– File uncheck procedures need to be in place for a proper
handling
– This can be supported by the tool or by a user guideline
