Dear Professor Riddle,

I hope your week has started off well. My name is Whitney Bolitho, and I’m in your Intro to
Professional Writing Class online. I’m writing to you to ask for your professional opinion in
regards to G.R.I.P.H.. There has been a lot of talk about what will be the most effective way to
deal with and coexist with wolves once they are reintroduced to Colorado, one such solution
that’s been brought to my attention is range riding. The owner of G.R.I.P.H. (Guarding the
Respective Interests of Predators and Humans) Daniel Curry has been traveling around teaching
people about the effectiveness of range riding. Being a range rider entails staying with the
livestock and deterring the wolves from hunting them using non lethal methods. The continual
presence of the range rider will teach the wolves new behavioral patterns, which will in turn save
the lives of the wolves and the livestock.

I’ve always been passionate about wildlife, and would love to see wolves thrive in Colorado. Mr.
Curry is offering opportunities to learn to be a range rider. How should I go about volunteering to
be one? I wasn’t even aware this was a career until I heard him speak a couple weeks ago.
What’s the best way to go about applying for a job in a field that you’ve never been in? And if I
am unable to do this job, how should I go about spreading the word about this solution in a
professional way? I want to do more than just rant and rave about wolves.

What do you think about range riding as a way for wolves and humans to coexist? I look forward
to hearing insights.

Sincerely,
