LESSON

Tools and Equipment are Cleaned According to Standard Procedures

The salon requires thorough cleaning and disinfection of all tools, implements
devices, or other equipment before direct interaction with the customer.

Before and after each use, it's essential to sterilize metal tools, disinfect wooden tools,
disinfect hand and foot spa machines, and environmental surfaces. Contaminated
tools can cause unsightly, painful, and sometimes fungal infections. Decontamination
removes pathogens and other substances from tools or surfaces. Always make sure
the safety and hygiene within the salon to stop and control infections and contagious
diseases, although it's very impossible to safeguard the salon against all
contamination.

Proper Cleaning and Disinfection

Almost everything within the salon has some sort of hard or soft surface. For
instance, finishing tabletops and armrest pads, finger bowls, towels, files/buffer
pads, tools, etc. These surfaces in direct contact with the customer's skin are
considered contaminated. All contaminated surfaces must take care of and
appropriate:

 Cleaned
 Disinfected
For the surface to be considered adequately clean, the surface must first be
thoroughly scrubbed, freed from any visible traces of debris, or residue
contamination. Proper cleaning means to thoroughly remove all visible residues on
each surface of the table, tools, and equipment, then rinse thoroughly with clean
water.
After proper cleaning, all reusable implements/tools must be disinfected by complete
immersion in an appropriate disinfecting solution is to destroy potentially harmful,
or infectious microorganisms’ pathogens on the pre-cleaned surface. Disinfectants
require 10-minute immersion; 70-90% isopropyl and ethyl alcohol on clean, porous
abrasives, and buffers to disinfect them. Disinfectant products are designed to
destroy pathogenic microorganisms on inanimate surfaces, avoid contact with the
skin.
Appropriate salon disinfectants include the following:

• 1 a part of a tenth bleach solution in 9 parts of water

• Isopropyl alcohol, 70%-90% solution

• Ethyl alcohol, 70%-90% solution

Steps in Cleaning Nail Care tools

1. Always start by washing your hands with soap and water.

2. Put the brush in a bowl and pour 70% to 90% isopropyl
alcohol until the brush is submerged.
3. Let the brush soak for five minutes.
4. Once you recognize the brush has been sanitized, you'll use
it to wash other tools.
5. Add antibacterial soap to your brush and use it to wash nail clippers, glass
nail files, and callus remover tools. Your goal is to get rid of accumulated
debris.
6. After finishing scrubbing, rinse tools with predicament until all the soap is
gone and air-dry the tool and place it in an uncontaminated area.
Step in Disinfecting Nail Care Tools
1. Put the nail clippers, glass nail file, and metal pusher into a clean bowl.
2. Likewise, use isopropyl alcohol to completely cover your tools. Enable them
to stay within the solution for 20 minutes.
3. If you don't have isopropyl alcohol, you should boil metal tools in water for
10 minutes.
4. Clean your hands before removing the disinfected tools.
5. Store disinfected or sterilized tools in clean and labeled containers.

Steps in Disinfecting Hand and Foot Spa Equipment

1. Drain the water from the foot spa basin or bowl and take away any visible
debris.
2. Clean the surfaces of the foot spa with soap or detergent, rinse with clean
water, and drain.
3. Disinfect the surfaces consistent with the manufacturer's directions on the
label.
4. Drain and rinse with clean water, then air dries the tool and stores it in an
uncontaminated area.
