DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

LOCATION
The digestive system is a long tube that extends from the mouth to
the anus. It is divided into different parts, each of which fulfills
specific missions. These parts are the esophagus, the stomach,
the small intestine, the large intestine (or colon) and the anu

FUNTION
The digestive system is made up of a set of organs whose function
is the processing and absorption of food. This allows the nutrients
to be assimilated for the proper functioning of the whole body. It is
also responsible for eliminating waste products (food residues,
intestinal bacteria and flaking cells). The bile-pancreatic system
allows the digestion of food through the secretion of enzymes in
the intestinal light

PROCESS
The digestion process begins in the mouth, where the teeth are
responsible for crushing the ingested food and mixing it with
saliva to form the food bolus, which goes down to the stomach,
through the esophagus. Once in the stomach, the food is crushed,
dissolved and partially digested until leaving a solution of
hydrochloric acid, enzymes and food particles, called chyme. The
dissolution of the food in the stomach, which has a liter and a half
of capacity, is produced with the help of the muscle movements
that agitate the feeding bolus and also mix it with the gastric
juices. These juices are contained in the stomach, by the cardia
that communicates with the esophagus. When the food goes down,
the cardia opens to let it pass, but the rest of the time it prevents
gastric acids from ascending through the esophagus. The chyme
continues to go down the small intestine, seven meters of
digestive tract very folded in itself. The first part of the intestine,
the duodenum, serves to mix the chyme again with the juices from
the pancreas and bile. Finally, the chyme, increasingly diluted,
reaches the large intestine. Non-digested foods end up in the
rectum where they are expelled through the anus
