PERIODIC TABLE

Senior High
Name : School

Class :
What is the periodic table ?

There are

98 natural elements
118
elements Consist of + 20 synthetical elements

It would not be convinience to study each element and study all the
properties
So we have to organize them to study it easily.

The 118 elements can arranged by their similarities.

But, what the similarity for all the elements ?
So, This is the history of periodic table development.
Modern Periodic Table

Give a square to show that it called group and period !

The atomic mass is nucleon

number which is the total number
of particles in the nucleus
(protons + neutrons)

The atomic number is the

number of protons.
Exercise !

More about the groups !

Use a Periodic Table to help you to complete the last two diagrams
for sodium (Na) and potassium (K).
How many of electrons in the valence energy level in each case?

The group number is the same as the number of

outer-shell electrons in the atoms
Guess Game !
How the similarity properties of Na and K ?

More about the periods !

Let’s count the number of electron shells in the atoms !

The number of electron shells : The number of electron shells :

The number of period : The number of period :
The number of group : The number of group :

The period number is the same as the number of

electrons shells in the atoms
The importance of periodic table !

Why we need periodic table ?

Please, write down the limitation of messy elements and the
advantage of periodic table !

Limitation of messy elements Advantage of periodic table

Let’s continue to learn about their properties !

The metals and non-metals

Let’s take a look to the hidrogen

The exception of hydrogen which occurs in the first block of the

table despite being a non-metal
Let’s take a look to zig-zag line !

There are far more metals than non metals.

In fact, over 80% of the elements are metal.
