School-Based Re-orientation on the Gender-Responsive


Basic Education Policy
August 18, 2023

Introduction:

Sta. Mesa Elementary School conducted a comprehensive re-orientation on


the Gender-Responsive Basic Education Policy on August 18, 2023. The
event aimed to equip the school staff with updated information and
strategies to effectively implement gender-responsive practices within the
educational setting. The day-long event was divided into three parts: the
opening program, the re-orientation proper, and the closing program.

Part I: Opening Program (7:30 AM - 8:00 AM)

The opening program commenced at 7:30 AM, marking the beginning of the
insightful event. The program was as follows:

Prayer: The event started with a prayer led by Clarissa Jane E. Romias, a
Teacher I at the school, setting a contemplative and respectful tone for the
day.

National Anthem: Angelica G. Dela Roca, a Teacher II, led the participants in
singing the national anthem, fostering a sense of unity and patriotism.

Opening Remarks: Marjorie G. Magtibay, the Teacher in Charge, welcomed


the participants and highlighted the significance of the re-orientation in
promoting an inclusive and equitable learning environment.

Presentation of Participants: Shyne B. Pulhin, a Teacher III, introduced the


participants, acknowledging the collective commitment of the school staff to
the cause of gender-responsive education.

Food for Thought: Bienvenido H. Caponpon Jr., a Teacher III, shared


insightful reflections on the importance of understanding and embracing
gender-responsive practices.

Inspirational Message: Luisito L. Cantos, EdD, the Public Schools District


Supervisor, delivered an inspiring message emphasizing the role of
educators in fostering a safe and respectful learning environment for all.

House Rules / Statement: Anjanette R. Alolod, the School Gender and


Development (GAD) Focal Person, outlined the event's house rules and
reiterated the importance of creating a space free from discrimination.

Part II: Re-Orientation Proper

The re-orientation sessions aimed to provide a comprehensive


understanding of gender-responsive education policies and practices:

DepEd Issues and Concern Updates Relative to GAD: Dr. Luisito L. Cantos,
the Public Schools District Supervisor, discussed the latest developments in
gender and development within the education sector, emphasizing their
relevance to the school's practices.

Rationale of Gender Responsive Basic Education and Scope and Policy


Statement GRBE: Marjorie G. Magtibay, the Teacher in Charge, elaborated
on the rationale behind the Gender-Responsive Basic Education policy and
its scope, providing context for the day's discussions.

Definition of Terms: Anjanette R. Alolod, the School GAD Focal Person,


clarified key terms related to gender and provided a common understanding
for all participants.

Gender-Responsive Basic Education: Anjanette R. Alolod, the School GAD


Focal Person, delved into the core principles and practices of gender-
responsive education, equipping the participants with the necessary
knowledge for implementation.

Planning and Field Operations And The GAD Focal Point System (GFPS):
Abegail Joy J. Salvador, a Teacher III, explored the practical aspects of
planning and implementing gender-responsive strategies, including the role
of the GAD Focal Point System.

Part III: Closing Program (4:00 PM - 5:00 PM)

The event concluded with a meaningful closing program:

The technical working group extended appreciation to the participants for


their active involvement and enthusiastic participation throughout the re-
orientation. The participants left the event armed with new insights,
strategies, and renewed commitment to promoting gender-responsive
practices in education.

Conclusion:

The re-orientation on the Gender-Responsive Basic Education Policy at Sta.


Mesa Elementary School provided a comprehensive and enlightening
experience for all participants. It not only increased awareness but also
equipped the school staff with practical tools and knowledge to foster a more
inclusive and equitable educational environment. The event marked a
significant step toward creating a safe and supportive space for students to
learn and grow, irrespective of gender.
