The teacher will discuss the lesson about The Reproductive parts in plant and their function.
Plants is everywhere and they are important part of human life and to nature as well—they
can feed insects, birds, animals and humans; provide natural medicines for humans and some
animals; and aid in a plant's reproduction by enticing outside pollinators. Without flowers,
plants would merely be green, and the world would be a duller place. Some plants reproduce
using their parts like their roots, stems and leaves. However, there are some plants which may reproduce by
using their accessory part – the flower.
Flowers are the sexual organs in plants. It has five major parts. A complete flower has the following parts:
receptacle, sepals, petals, stamen, and pistils.
Petal-Flowers have more than one petal, and the flower petals are collectively called the corolla. The corolla or
petals form the most obvious part of a flower and are often brightly colored with markings attractive to insects.
Sepals -A flower bud is protected by green leafy structures called sepals. Collectively, all of the sepals form the
calyx.
The receptacle - is the enlarged upper end of a flower stalk on the stem where floral organs originate and
attach. It bears the flower or group of flowers.
The flowers may also be scented. For instance, Honeysuckle has showy, attractive flowers which attract insects
by day. However, in the dark, their colorful show is not much use, and their heady scent then helps to attract
night-flying moths. In insect-pollinated plants, there are also usually nectaries which secrete sugary nectar,
located within the flower. These provide an incentive to insects to visit the flowers. In the search for nectar, the
insects will often get pollen grains caught on their bodies. This may then brush off onto the stigma of the next
flower visited and in this way the flowers are pollinated.
The Carpel The female part of a flower is called the pistil or carpel and consists of an ovary, a style, and the
stigma.
-The stigma is found at the tip of the style. It is a swollen structure at the end of the style. It contains a sticky
substance whose job is to catch and receive pollen grains from different pollinators dispersed through the wind
to begin the process of fertilization. The mature stigma secretes a fluid that stimulates the pollen grains to
germinate.
The style is a long slender stalk that holds and connects the stigma and ovary. Once the pollen reaches the
stigma, the style starts to become hollow and forms a tube called pollen tube which takes the pollen to the
ovaries to enable fertilization.
-The ovary is at the base of the flower which holds and contains one or more ovules. It forms the base of the
pistil. Within the ovule is the female egg cell called ovum.
After fertilization, the ovule becomes the seed and the ovary becomes the fruit. The main purpose of flowers is
to aid in plant reproduction. Flowers provide an eye-catching attribute to an otherwise plain, green-leaved plant.
When insects, birds and some bats dip down to take a look at the flower and steal its nectar, they are
inadvertently pollinating the plants by moving pollen or plant sperm from the male stamens to the female pistils.

How will you encourage people to plant more flowers, fruits, and vegetables at home?
How will you tell to people that flowers should be cared of?
Why these flowers are important in our ecosystem?
