Day 18 - Heart Disease: Why Early

Prevention is Critical |The Peter Attia

Longevity has two parts, health span, lifespan. The lifespan part
comes down to delaying the onset of chronic disease of which
this is the most common chronic disease. Atherosclerosis is
really the only inevitable disease of our species. This disease
takes a really long time to occur, which is good news, right? It's
not a disease that's gonna happen overnight. It's a disease that
is like moving towards an iceberg at three knots from hundreds
of miles away. But the flip side of that is it takes a while to
prevent it as well, right? So just like a slow-moving ship towards
an iceberg, you can't wait until you're looking at the iceberg to
do anything about it. I think based on what you're going to hear
me talk about today, we know a lot about this condition and we
really have tools to mitigate it. That's the reason you wanna
really understand this.
Useful language and chunks:
1. Longevity
2. To come down to
3. The onset of something
4. Chronic disease
5. Inevitable
6. To happen overnight
7. Do something at three knots
8. The flip side of something
9. To mitigate something
10. That’s the reason + clause
