INTRODUCTION. Products Available
Though relatively new in the UK
construction industry, the popularity of
GRP or FRP rebar is gaining in recent
times, due to its strength and durability.
Because of inherent corrosion-resistant
properties, it can also help prevent
GRP Rebar Sand Coated Rebar
huge maintenance costs for
concrete structures exposed to
environmental conditions.

Made from high strength fiberglass reinforced

with vinyl ester resin, it offers a plethora of
benefits over traditional metal rebar: it’s
lighter in weight, corrosion-resistant, and Mesh Panels Corner Sub-Assemblies
stronger than typical rebar.

With greater design flexibility due to its

unique properties, it is also an ideal choice for
concrete projects requiring low conductivity.
In order to make concrete stronger, tougher,
and more resistant to corrosion, GRP rebar
Column Sub-Assemblies Rock Bolts
should be your go-to choice.

APPLICATIONS OF
REBAR
• Uses in concrete requiring low conductivity
• Concrete near harsh and humid environments Self-Drilling Rock Bolts “Big D” Rock Bolts

• Weight sensitive structures

• Marine Environments

BENEFITS
• 100% Protection against Corrosion = long life
• High tensile Strength
• Light in weight = fast construction Hollow Rock Bolts Accessories
• Low labour cost

Hartlepool and Whitby Bay Sea Defence Wall 2015-2019

CASE STUDY
Product Supplied: 10mm Re-bar Mesh Panels
Our customer was contracted to manufacture and
supply 4,000 GRP reinforced concrete decorated
panels, for which Engineered Composites
supplied them with GRP Re-bar mesh panels.
This was for the new Sea Defence wall at
Hartlepool Headland, that was part of a £9M
coastal erosion programme by the Hartlepool
Borough Council, created to protect and
strengthen the current 100-year-old sea wall.

Why GRP?
GRP was chosen over the traditional steel reinforcement mesh due to its many advantages,
but particularly because of its resistance against salt water corrosion. The sea wall required a
life expectancy of 200 years, and the use of GRP will help to meet this expectation.

Rebar & 152* 80* 10mm Ibeam profile
A new track slab for the light rail tram system in Blackpool was being constructed
in November 2018.

Why GRP?
There is a section of the track slab in which the use of steel reinforcement was not permissible
within the area of the track circuit detection and signalling system and switch point area.

The requirement to construct the switch point equipment within a “metal-free area” means
GRP Rebar was the go to choice when traditional steel reinforcement is not permitted.
