Book Review: The Story of Doctor Dolittle.

Introduction

The Story of Doctor Dolittle is a junior classic book and is written by Hugh Lofting and is
the first of the books of the Doctor Dolittle adventures. This book is about a doctor who
prefers to treat animals better than humans. His love for the animals increases every year
until he develops one of the best powers of the world, I consider a human being could have,
talk to animals, that is how he starts his adventures until he becomes the most famous
character able to talk to animals all around the world.

Summary of content

John Dolittle is a doctor whom as I mentioned prefers to interact with animals instead of
humans. One day, a curious parrot suddenly showed up and taught John how to talk to his
animals so he can treat them better, since then, he has the ability to talk to every single
animal in their own language until he becomes the most famous animal doctor all around
the world. One day, the monkeys of Africa were infected with a terrible disease, so his was
recruited to go there and save them.

Throughout history John is also faced with economic issues that he must face. He begins a
journey by sea with his best friends heading to Africa but is shipwrecked when he gets
there, on the way to the kingdom of the monkeys he and the animals that accompanied him
were arrested by the king, when they escaped and managed to reach the kingdom of the
monkeys they found the terrible situation, he took his time to vaccinate them and take care
of them until they recover, as thanks they gave John an offering capable of solving his
financial problems.

To Dolittle's misfortune, on his return his band is captured again by the king but with the
help of the prince and his ship they were able to escape. When John returns to his land he
invests the expensive gift of the monkeys to get recover from the bankruptcy and retire to
his home in peace.
Analysis and evaluation of the book

When I was a child, I was a huge fan of Doctors Dolittle’s cinematics universe, but I’ve
never had the chance to read the book until now, even though you almost know how the
story goes because of the movies, reading the book is a completely different experience,
you can go into his world too and be part of it, with more details and different experiences.
Doctor Dolittle is definitely one of the best pieces of art given by literature not only for
children.

Conclusions

This work is a science fiction classic, like so many others by this author. Of great
"historical" value for what the idea has contributed to the literary world, as a novel it is
good but somewhat simple. Much more could have been exploited.
