MODULE 2: UNIT 3

THE GLOBAL
INTERSTATE
SYSTEM
BY: (GROUP 2) BSED FILIPINO 1E
DEFINITION OF TERMS
INTERSTATE SYSTEM
is a network of in control high
speed highways which
constitute the main part of the
national highways of the United
States.
SOLIDARITY
unity or agreement of feeling or action, especially
among individuals with a common interest; mutual
support within a group.
INTERGOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION
The term intergovernmental organization (IGO)
refers to an entity created by treaty, involving two or
more nations, to work in good faith, on issues of common
interest. In the absence of a treaty an IGO does not exist
in the legal sense.
INTERNATIONAL TRADE
International trade is referred to as the
exchange or trade of goods and services
between different nations. This kind of trade
contributes and increases the world economy.
The most commonly traded commodities are
television sets, clothes, machinery, capital
goods, food, raw material, etc.
THE GLOBAL
INTERSTATE SYSTEM
It is the whole system of human interactions. The modern
world-system is structured politically as an interstate
system – a system of competing and allying states. Political
Scientists commonly call this the international system, and it
is the main focus of the field of International Relations.
EFFECTS OF
GLOBALIZATION
ON
GOVERNMENTS
Globalization, thus, has powerful
economic, political, cultural and social
implications for sovereignty. Globalization
has led to a decline in the power of
national governments to direct and
influence their economies (especially with
regard to macroeconomic management);
and to determine their political
structures.
Globalization has affected the
Philippine economy in many ways. It
opened the market to foreign trade
and increased both capital flows and
financial integration. It promoted
greater labor mobility (labor migration)
and lessen the impact of inflation. As
with the economy, globalization also
affected politics.
INSTITUTIONS THAT GOVERN
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
This is an introduction to six of the world's most prominent
international organizations:
the United Nations, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO),
the European Union (EU), the World Trade Organization (WTO), the
Group of Twenty (G20), and the International Criminal Court (ICC).
DIFFERENTIATE
INTERNATIO-
NALISM FROM
GLOBALISM
The difference between internationalism and
globalism is that internationalism is political,
economic and cultural cooperation between nations
while globalism is an ideology based on the belief that
people, goods and information ought to be able to cross
national borders unfettered.
Globalism is much wider in terms of its
meaning, scope, and outcome while
Internationalism lays stress only on the
solidarity and cooperations among the
nations, while acknowledging sovereign
character.
WHAT IS GLOBAL GOVERNANCE?
•Global governance refers to the system
of decision-making and co-operation among
international actors, including states,
intergovernmental organisations, non-
governmental organizations, and civil society.
SPECIALIZED AGENCIES
•UN specialized agencies are international
organizations working with the UN, in accordance
with relationship agreements between each
organization and the UN. Specialized Agencies
each have a process for admitting members and
appointing their administrative head.
WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATIONS
The World Trade Organization is an
intergovernmental organization that regulates and
facilitates international trade. With effective
cooperation in the United Nations System,
governments use the organization to establish,
revise, and enforce the rules that govern
international trade.
