1.0 Introduction
The Ordinance titled, “Research Programmes leading to Award of Ph.D. Degree” fully complies
with UGC Regulation titled, “UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil. /
Ph.D. Degree), Regulation, 2009”. Ph.D. Entrance Exam has been made mandatory for
registration for Ph.D. in the University. This Ordinance also stipulates evaluation of the Ph.D.
Protocol and the candidate by Research Protocol Evaluation Committee to ensure that only those
candidates who are competent to carry out high quality research and to make positive
contribution to knowledge in their chosen field, are allowed to register for Ph.D. and pursue
Research Programme leading to award of Ph.D. Degree.
2.0 APPLICABILITY
This Ordinance shall apply to all Research Programmes leading to the award of the Degree titled
Doctor of Philosophy.
3.0 DEFINITION
b. “BOF or Board of Faculty” shall mean Board of Faculty concerned of the University.
c. “BOS or Board of Studies” shall mean Board of Studies of the concerned Department
of the University.
d. “Co-Guide” shall mean a person holding Ph.D. Degree on the rolls of a University /
Institute / Research Lab / Industry etc. duly empanelled by the University for the purpose
of acting as additional Guide to the Research Scholar. A faculty member on the rolls of
JECRC University, eligible to be appointed as Guide may be appointed as Co-Guide by
RPEC / URC.

f. “Degree” shall mean the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) of the University.
g. “HoD or Head of the Department” shall mean Head of the concerned Department of
the University.
i. “Guide” shall mean a faculty member holding Ph.D. Degree on the rolls of the
University, allotted by the competent authority for guidance of the Research Scholar.
k. “Research Scholar” shall mean a person duly registered for the Research Programme in
the University leading to award of Ph.D. degree as per procedure laid down in this
Ordinance.
l. “RPEC or Research Protocol Evaluation Committee” means Research Protocol Evaluation
Committee constituted by the University for a particular School or Department.
m. “School” shall mean a School concerned of the University
4.1 Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s
Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC
in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science &
Applications, Electronic Science, Engineering & Technology, Architecture,
Management, Medicine, Dental Sciences, Pharmacy, Law, Physical and Life Sciences
etc. The Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer / Scheduled
Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) / Persons with disability (PWD) category
candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s
degree or equivalent examination are eligible for admission.
Or
A member of Institute of Charted Accountants of India.
4.2 Must have appeared and qualified in Entrance Examination conducted by the
University. However, candidates having a valid UGC-CSIR JRF / NET / GATE
qualification or candidates having Passport of a foreign country shall be exempted for
appearance in the Entrance Test.
4.3 Foreign students shall be registered for admission in Doctoral Programme leading to
Ph.D. degree if they have a valid research visa issued by Govt. of India for a
minimum period of two years or extendable to minimum two years or more.

A consolidated merit list shall be prepared with 70% weightage to the marks scored in the
Entrance Test and 30% weightage of performance in interview conducted by the University
Research Committee (URC). Separate merit list shall be prepared for each discipline and
Rank shall be provided to each candidate. Those candidates, who fail to appear in the
interview before URC shall not be considered for award of Rank. In the award of Rank,
candidates having valid UGC-CSIR JRF qualification shall be given first preference and
candidates having valid UGC-CSIR NET qualification shall be given second preference. If
the seats remain vacant, candidates having valid GATE score but not appeared in the
Entrance Test may also be considered.
A Research Scholar who is already registered as a Ph.D scholar in some other University
may be transferred to the University. The Research Scholar will obtain a 'No Objection
Certificate' from his/her earlier University and apply for registration in JECRC University.
He/she shall be evaluated by the concerned RPEC. If RPEC recommends his / her case and it
is approved by the President, such Research Scholar may be registered in JECRC University
provided he/she gets his / her registration cancelled from the previous University. The
transfer of course work credits completed and time spent in earlier university by the
candidate and progress of work achieved will be considered by the RPEC for deciding the
starting point for research work at JECRC University.

8.1 The shortlisted candidates on the basis of Merit of Entrance Examination and
Interview shall make a presentation to RPEC with their Research Plan. RPEC shall
confirm the broad area of Research and allot a suitable Guide from the University.
Shortlisted candidates may be required to modify their area of research in case a
suitable Guide specialized in that area is not available in the University. If such
candidate refuses to modify his /her area of research, his / her candidature may be
rejected by RPEC. The Research Plan shall be written in English in the specified
format in accordance with the instructions contained in Annexure 1 of this
Ordinance.
8.2 The recommendations of RPEC shall be placed by the Chairman concerned to the
President for approval. The list of the candidates who have been approved by the
President shall be released by the Head of the Department concerned and the
approved candidates shall be advised to deposit requisite fees within 15 days from the
date of notification.
8.3 Head of the Department concerned shall submit a Registration Return in the
prescribed format to the Registrar for registration as Research Scholar for the
candidates who have deposited their fees. Registrar after due verification shall
register the eligible candidates from the date of recommendation by RPEC.
8.4 Those candidates, who fail to deposit the requisite fees within the specified deadline
may be permitted a grace period of 15 days from the deadlines by the Dean of the
School concerned on the basis of justified reasons. If an approved candidate fails to
deposit the fees within the specified period, his / her candidature shall be cancelled
and opportunity may be given to the other candidates based upon their merit.
8.5 Registrar shall place the lists of all approved candidates before the Academic Council
in its next meeting for ratification. If Academic Council disagrees with the
candidature of any Research Scholar, who has been registered, the matter shall be
referred to the Chairperson, whose decision shall be final and binding.
9.1 The Research Scholar shall undergo course work for minimum three Subjects
including the Subject allotted in the area of research within six months from the date
of registration and appear in the term end examinations as notified by Controller of
Examination. Regular classes for Research Methodology and Quantitative
Techniques & Computer Applications shall be held as per schedule notified by the
Dean of the School concerned. However, the third Subject pertaining to the area of

research shall be taken by the Guide / Co-Guide during this period. RPEC may also
allot fourth subject in the area of research if it deems so fit, specifically if the area of
research is inter-disciplinary. Normally, subject(s) allotted in the area of research
shall be from the list of core subjects offered in the relevant PG Programmes.
9.2 Research Scholar will have to complete the attendance requirement of the course
work before commencement of his Research work. However, he may continue with
the literature survey during this period. In case a Research Scholar fails in the term
end examinations, he will be allowed two more chances to appear in a supplementary
examination, as per University norms. If he fails to clear the course work even after
two additional chances, his admission shall be cancelled.
9.3 The Course Work shall be for a minimum period of one semester consisting of the
following Subjects / Papers / Seminars:
a. Research Methodology 3 Credits
b. Quantitative Techniques & Computer Applications 3 Credits
c. One or more specialized Subject(s) related to the area of research 3 Credits each
d. Two seminars within one year from the date of registration 1 Credit each
9.4 Research Scholar shall present two seminars based upon the literature review carried
out by him within one year from the date of registration before RPEC. Each seminar
shall be of one credit and evaluated by RPEC with a suitable Grade as per University
norms.
10.0 Synopsis
10.1 Research Scholar shall submit a Synopsis in the prescribed format as given in
Annexure 2 and make a presentation on the specified topic to RPEC during or
within two months from the date of completion of course work. In case RPEC is
satisfied by the presentation, the specific topic of research shall be fixed and the
information shall be given to the Registrar by Head of the Department concerned.
A Research Scholar will ordinarily be allowed two chances for such presentations
before the RPEC within one year of the registration. A third attempt may be
allowed only with the approval of the President in special circumstances. The
topic of the research may be further changed, if required, based upon the outcome
of the research by the RPEC and this information shall also be given to the
Registrar by HoD concerned for record.
10.2 The Research Scholar shall also submit a declaration to the effect that the research
work done by him / her till date and contents reflected in the Synopsis are the
original piece of research and free from plagiarism. Guide(s) shall carefully go
through the PhD Synopsis for the grammatical errors and structure as per
guidelines and give instructions to the Research Scholar for its modification, if
required. If Guide(s) is / are satisfied about the quality of the Synopsis he/they
shall submit the same to HoD of Department concerned with a certificate

testifying therein that the entire text of the PhD Synopsis has been read
thoroughly and it is as per guidelines and grammatical correct.
10.3 HoD of Department concerned shall also countersign the certificate given by the
Guide(s) if he / she is satisfied and forward the Synopsis to University Research
Committee (URC) for verifying its suitability for uploading on the Shodh
Gangotri, web-portal of University Grants Commission.
11.1 Each scholar shall have a Guide, duly approved by the RPEC and may also have
one Co-Guide, if felt appropriate by RPEC.
11.2 The allocation of Guide/ Co-Guide for the Research Scholar shall be decided by
the RPEC in a formal manner depending upon the availability and specialization of
the Guide and research interests of the student indicated by him/her at the time of
Interview.
11.3 The allotment / allocation of Guide(s)/ Co-Guide(s) shall not be left to the
Research Scholar and / or Faculty members. The RPEC shall facilitate this process in
the academic interest. During the admission process, potential Guide(s) may express
their interest to RPEC in guiding a Research Scholar, which may be taken on record.
RPEC shall maintain a database of potential Guide(s) along with their areas of
specialization.
11.4 Guide allocated by the RPEC must be on the roll of the University but Co-
Guide may be allocated from outside the University with the condition that both
Guides must hold Ph.D Degree. However, if a Guide leaves the University, due to
whatsoever reasons, he/she may continue as Co-Guide but a new Guide shall be
allotted by RPEC and the same will be got ratified from Academic Council.
11.5 Any regular teacher of the JECRC University who holds a Ph.D. degree and has a
teaching/research experience of more than 2 years shall be eligible to be a Guide.
11.6 A teacher with Ph.D. but having less than 2 years of experience in
teaching/research will be eligible to become a Co-Guide only.

11.7 A person from another University, a public sector industry, or other reputed
established industry or institutions conducting research programmes shall also be
eligible to be appointed as a Co-Guide provided he/she holds a Ph.D Degree and has
established record of research evident through publications in standard referred
journals.
11.8 At any given time, a Guide shall not have more than 08 Ph.D. Research Scholars,
with him. For the purpose of calculation of number of Research Scholars, full
weightage shall be given if the Research Scholar is having only one Guide and half
weightage shall be given if the Research Scholar has Guide as well as Co-Guide. For
example if a teacher has five Research Scholars under him out of which two Research
Scholars have Co-Guide as well, his research load shall be four (1+1+1+0.5+0.5).
However, Academic Council may prescribe the lower limit of research load for
various categories of teachers i.e. Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant
Professor at its discretion. In exceptional cases, relaxation may be given to a
particular individual by the Academic Council based upon justifiable reasons but not
exceeding 8 at any given point of time.
12.1 Addition/ deletion/ change of Research Guide/Co-Guide and Area of Research / Topic
would be considered by RPEC under following circumstances on request obtained from the
Research Scholar and / or Guide(s):
(a) Deletion of Guide/ Co-Guide may be considered for the following reasons:
(i) Death of Guide/ Co- Guide.
(ii) Resignation of the Guide / Co- Guide from the University.
(ii) Attainment of age of seventy years by Guide/ Co- Guide.
(iii) Any other specific reason to the satisfaction of RPEC.
(b) Addition of Co- Guide would be considered along with justification that it is absolutely
necessary for carrying out research work. However, addition of Co- Guide is allowed only
up to one year from the date of registration except in the case where Guide of the Research
Scholar leaves the University and is permitted by RPEC to continue as Co-Guide.
(c) Change / Modifications in the area of research would be considered by RPEC, if the
proposed change/modification does not involve drastic change with respect to original area
of research with the following conditions:

i. If the request for change/modification is received by the RPEC within six months of
registration and approved, it will not have any effect on the registration period.
ii. However, if the request is received after six months of the date of registration and
subsequently approved by RPEC, the period before change would be added to the
mandatory registration period of two years, if there is a major change in the topic/
area of research.
(d) Change / Modifications in the topic of research would be considered by RPEC, if the
proposed change/modification does not involve drastic change with respect to original area of
research. RPEC may also consider change of topic of research after the research work has been
completed by the Research Scholar and the outcome so warrants.
(e) The recommendation of RPEC shall be put up to the President for final approval and
placing before the Academic Council.
13.2 The RPEC after having considered the progress report of each Research Scholar
shall recommend one of the following:
If the RPEC recommends termination of registration, the matter is to be referred to the President,
who may approve the termination of registration of the Research Scholar after giving him an
opportunity for personal hearing and passing a speaking order. The matter shall be placed
thereafter to the Academic Council for ratification.
A Research Scholar shall be permitted to submit his Thesis after a minimum period of two years
from the date of registration. Research Scholar may submit his Thesis within four years from the

date of registration. However, RPEC may recommend extension of registration beyond four
years on year to year basis based upon justifiable reasons to the President for consideration. No
Research Scholar shall be allowed to continue after completion of six years from the date of
registration and his registration shall automatically stand cancelled after this period. However, a
mercy chance can be given at the discretion of President for another period of one year from the
date of lapse.
15.1 On the completion of research work by the Research Scholar and complying with
the of his research work in the prescribed format as per Annexure 3. If Guide(s)
is / are satisfied that the research work has been completed as per pre-defined
objectives and the Research Scholar meets the eligibility criteria for Pre-Ph.D
Presentation including submission requirements, he will be required to make a
Pre-Ph.D Presentation before the RPEC. The Research Scholar shall submit to
Guide(s), a copy of the Pre-Submission Synopsis published work; he/they shall
forward the same with a certificate to HoD concerned for verification.
15.2 HoD concerned shall forward the Pre-Submission Synopsis of the Research
Scholar after countersigning the certificate given by the Guide(s) to the RPEC.
The Committee shall scrutinize the eligibility of the Research Scholar for Pre-
Ph.D Presentation and Pre-Submission Synopsis and give its recommendations to
the URC for further consideration. Once URC declares a Research Scholar
eligible for Pre-Ph.D Presentation, the case shall be referred to the President for
approval, after which Research Scholar shall submit 8 copies of the Pre-
Submission Synopsis to HoD concerned through Guide(s). HOD shall arrange the
Pre-Ph.D Presentation of the Research Scholar before RPEC in the presence of
Faculty members, Research Scholars and PG Students. RPEC after completion of
the Pre-Ph.D. Presentation by the Research Scholar shall give its
recommendations as under:
(i) If RPEC is fully satisfied with the research work completed by the
Research Scholar, it will recommend to the President to allow the Research
Scholar to write his / her Thesis and submit the final draft within 6 months
from the date of clearance by RPEC.
(ii) If RPEC is not satisfied with the research work done by the Research
Scholar, it will advise the Research Scholar to make the specific changes /
undertake additional research work and resubmit the Pre-Submission
Synopsis.
15.3Notice for Pre-Ph.D Submission Presentation must be issued by the HoD concerned
in consultation with Chairman RPEC at least 10 calendar days in advance.
15.4Research Scholar shall submit six copies of Revised Pre-Ph.D. Synopsis, after
incorporating the suggestions made by RPEC and URC, to HoD concerned, who will
forward three copies of the same to COE to enable him to seek consent of the
External Examiners to evaluate the Thesis as per the approval given by the President.

16.1 The Thesis shall be a body of research work characterized either by discovery of
new facts or enunciation of a new hypothesis/theory or theories or by fresh
interpretation of known facts. It should bear evidence of the Research Scholar’s
capacity for analysis and judgment as well as his/her ability to carry out
independent investigation, design or development. A Thesis must be
supplemented by published work in indexed and referred journals of repute and /
or in reputed Conferences organized by Universities / Institutions and supported /
sponsored by Professional Bodies. No part of the Thesis or supplementary
published work shall have been submitted for the award of any other diploma or
degree by any other University / Institution. Published work in sub-standard
journals and conferences shall not be considered for granting credit for such
work.
16.2 The Research Scholar of the University shall be required to submit a draft copy
of the Thesis to the Guides(s) within a period from 15 days to six months from
the date of Pre-Ph.D Presentation by the Research Scholar. The draft copy of the
Thesis shall also be accompanied by a declaration by the Research Scholar that
the work embodied in the Thesis entitled “_________” is original and has been
carried out by the author and that it has not been submitted in full or in part for
any other diploma or degree of this or any other University. He will further
certify that the contents of Thesis are free from plagiarism.
16.3 Guide(s) shall carefully go through the draft thesis and suggest changes, if any,
to the Research Scholar within 21 days positively. The Research Scholar shall
resubmit the amended Draft Thesis to the Guide(s) within a reasonable time to
the Guide(s) who shall forward the same to the HoD concerned with a certificate
on the same lines as in case of Synopsis.
16.4 HoD concerned shall countersign the certificate after obtaining a certificate
about originality of work from the Research Scholar and the Guide and forward
the Draft Thesis to RPEC for ascertaining its suitability for final submission.
The RPEC shall give its recommendations to URC for further consideration. If
URC recommends the Draft Thesis for final submission, the Research Scholar,
after approval of the President, shall submit five copies of the Thesis as per the
notified format to the Guide(s), in addition to the copies for Guide and Co--
Guide for submission to HoD concerned for further action.
16.5 In case Research Scholar fails to submit his Thesis within the stipulated time of
maximum six months but has a suitable justification for the same, the HoD
concerned may grant an extension of not more than two months i.e., the
Research Scholar may be allowed to submit his Thesis within a period not
exceeding eight months from the date of Pre-Ph.D Presentation. HoD concerned
shall inform the Registrar for such relaxation, if any.

16.6 If the Research Scholar even then fails to submit his / her Thesis within a
stipulated period of 8 months, he will be required to make a Pre-Ph.D
Presentation again with the preset conditions as given in Clause 15.0
16.7 The Thesis shall be written in English in specified format in accordance with the
instructions contained in Annexure-4 to this Ordinance.
16.8 Five copies of the bound Thesis and one copy on CD (in PDF format) shall be
submitted by the Research Scholar to the HoD concerned, who will forward
three copies to the Controller of Examination for getting it evaluated from the
External Examiners as approved by the President.
16.9 The Research Scholar shall also submit a No Dues Certificate to the HoD of
Department concerned at this stage to ensure that he / she has paid full fee for the
program and nothing is due against his / her name from the University.
17.1 A Research Scholar must publish minimum one research paper in an indexed and
refereed International Journal of repute and obtain an additional score of 10 on the
parameters as given hereunder:-
17.3 The type of publication/ presentation must be in the area / sphere of research and
directly connected to the topic of research. Only those research publications, in the
Journal / Proceedings of the Conferences, would be considered for award of marks
where the name of the Research Scholar is written as an author in affiliation with

Research Scholar must obtain a minimum CGPA of 6.0 for theory subjects as per
Clause 9.0
In case, a Research Scholar fails to get minimum CGPA of 6.0 in theory subjects as
mentioned above, he / she may be allowed to continue with the research work but
would be required to improve CGPA to minimum 6.0 before Pre-Ph.D Presentation.
19.1 A panel of at least six experts in the area of research work would be suggested by
the Guide(s) and placed before the RPEC at the time of Pre-Ph.D Presentation. The
RPEC may add/ delete a few of the name(s) proposed and forward the same to COE.
19.2 A person from the same University / Institutions/ industry where the candidate is
employed cannot be appointed as an external examiner. Further a person, working or
retired, from a University / Institutions/ industry to which the Guide and/or Co-
Guide of the candidate belong cannot be appointed as an external examiner.
19.3 On receipt of the copy Pre-Submission Synopsis, COE put up the panel of
proposed External Examiners as recommend by RPEC to the President for selecting
two External Experts out of six with the condition that at least one External
Examiner shall be from outside from University / Institution / Research Lab /
Organization etc. located outside Rajasthan.
19.4 On appointment of External Examiners, the COE shall send Pre-Submission
Synopsis to such external examiners as approved by the President and get their
consent to examine the Thesis. In case one or more examiners so appointed decline
to examine the Thesis, another External Examiner shall be appointed out of the panel
with the approval of President. In case the panel gets exhausted, RPEC shall be
requested to recommend additional names.
19.5 In case, the President himself / herself happens to be the Guide, the external
examiners shall be appointed by the Pro-President.

(i) COE will send two copies of Thesis to the two External Examiners whose consent
has been received as per clause 19.0
(ii) Each examiner will be requested to submit to the COE, a detailed assessment
report and his/her recommendations within two months of the date of receiving
the Thesis.
(iii) In the event that the assessment report is not received from an examiner within
two months, a polite reminder would be sent to the concerned examiner(s) by
COE. Even if the report is not received within four months from the date of
receipt of Thesis, the President may appoint another examiner from the panel of
examiners for evaluating the Thesis.
(iv) The examiners shall be required to state categorically whether in their individual
opinions, the Thesis should be:
(v) The external examiner shall state the reasons for recommending
resubmission/rejection of the Thesis. If resubmission is recommended, the
examiner shall specifically indicate the modifications that need to be made in the
Thesis by the Research Scholar.
(vi) On receipt of reports from all the examiners, COE shall place these reports before
the President, who shall peruse the reports and advise one of the following:
a) If the examiners are unanimous that the Thesis be accepted for award of the
degree, the Research Scholar is required to appear for viva voce.
b) If the examiners are unanimous that the Thesis be rejected or that the Thesis
be submitted in a revised form the result be declared accordingly, and the
Research Scholar be informed to submit the Thesis in a revised form.
(vii) In the event of the candidate being required to submit a revised Thesis, he shall,
submit the same within a period of one year from date of communication in this
regard from the COE. However, in exceptional circumstances this period may be
extended by RPEC by one more year but the total revision time will not exceed
two years. The revised Thesis shall be sent for assessment to the original panel of
examiners. In the event of one or more or original external examiners not being

(viii) In case, the Thesis has been unanimously rejected by both the external examiners,
the Research Scholar would be required to re-register for the research work as a
fresh candidate, if he / she so desires.
(ii) If none of the external examiners is available for the conduct of the viva voce, an
alternative external examiner shall be appointed by the President for this purpose.
(iii) The External Examiner invited for viva voce shall submit his evaluation report of
viva-voce to the representative of COE on the same day in sealed cover
(iv) On completion of all above stages of examination, the COE shall put up the case
to a committee consisting of the President, Dean of the School and HoD
concerned to study the reports of the evaluation and to approve one of the
following:
(v) In case of Clause 20.1(vii), the COE in consultation with the committee shall
provide to the Research Scholar a list of all corrections and modifications
suggested by the External Examiner(s) in the Thesis, including suggestions made
by the examiners during the Thesis evaluation. The Research Scholar shall
thereafter submit two hard-bound copies of the Thesis, incorporating all necessary
corrections/modifications to HoD concerned for onward transmission to COE.

(ii) The University, along with Degree, shall also issue a certificate to the effect that the
Ph.D Degree has been awarded in accordance with the UGC Regulations titled ‘UGC
(Minimum Standards and Procedures for Awards of M.Phil / Ph.D Degree)
Regulation 2009, as amended time to time.
Research Scholar will be entitled to avail leave as per Leave Rules/Attendance Rules formulated
and amended from time to time by the Academic Council.
Registration of a Research Scholar may be cancelled in any one of the following eventualities,
after due approval of President:
(i) If he fails to keep in contact with the Guide(s) for a continuous period of six months
without prior intimation/sanction of leave.
(ii) If he withdraws from the Ph.D. Programme and the withdrawal is duly recommended by
RPEC.
(iii) If fee is not deposited every semester/year, as the case may be.
(iv) If his academic progress is found unsatisfactory in terms of Clause 13.0 of this
Ordinance.
This Ordinance shall be applicable all the Research Scholars, who are registered by the
University as per recommendation of RPEC subsequent / prospectively to its notification.
Notwithstanding anything contained in this Ordinance, all categories of Research Scholar shall
be governed by the rules and procedures framed by the Academic Council on this behalf, and in

Notwithstanding anything stated in this Ordinance, for any unforeseen issues arising, and not
covered by this Ordinance, or in the event of differences of interpretation, the President may take
a decision, after obtaining, if necessary, the opinion/advice of a Committee consisting of senior
academic functionaries of the University. The decision of the President shall be final.
Following the successful completion of the evaluation process and announcement of award of
Ph.D, the Librarian shall upload the an electronic copy of the Thesis in PDF Format on
ShodhGanga, the Web Portal of University Grants Commission within a period of 30 days as
per specifications laid for this purpose.
In this Ordinance, wherever, the word ‘he’ and ‘his’ are mentioned, the same shall be read as
‘she / her’ respectively or vice versa.

The research plan should broadly indicate the area to be covered, objectives to be achieved and
proposed methodology. In general, the following should be the sequence of research plan:-

5. Research Objectives
6. Organization of thesis (chapter wise)

8. Scope for further work
The Pre-Ph.D. Synopsis should typically be 25 to 40 pages (excluding title pages). It should be
neatly typed on both sides in Times New Roman Font of size 12 with 1.5 spacing.
The general guidelines are as follows:
1. Pre-Ph.D. Synopsis must be unambiguous and its Title must be as approved by RPEC.
2. The objectives and methodology of the research should be stated in bullet form/itemized.
3. The entire text should be grammatical correct and must be at a reasonable language level.
4. The Pre-Ph.D. Synopsis must clearly mention the outcomes of the research.
5. Pre-Ph.D. Synopsis must be accompanied with a Certificate duly signed by Guide and
countersigned by HoD of Department concerned testifying therein that the entire text of
the Synopsis has been read thoroughly and it is as per the guidelines and grammatically
correct.

b. The Thesis should be hard bound in Maroon Leather Cover with outer cover page
printed in Golden Letters in specified format.
d. References in Harvard style should be given in a style (as per the Synopsis
guidelines of the JU).
e. The typing of cover page, title page, declaration of candidate, certificate of Guide
and name of chapters should be only on one side of the paper whereas the other
printing should be on both sides of the paper.

g. Six copies of the Thesis bound in hard cover and Pre-Submission synopsis along
with one copy on CD in PDF format must be submitted. In case, Research
Scholar is being supervised by more than one Guide, appropriate number of
additional copies must be submitted.
h. The colour of the binding (in hard) shall be Maroon with Golden printing.
i. The general text shall be typed in the font style ‘Times New Roman’ and Font
size 12. Use 1.5 spacing between the regular text and quotations.
j. Fonts
Regular text – Times Roman 12 pts. And normal print
Chapter heading- Times Roman 16 pts., bold print and all capitals
Section headings- Times Roman 12 pts., bold print and all capitals
Subsection headings – Times Roman 12 pts., bold print and leading capitals i.e.
only first letter in each word should be in capital. Single line spacing should be
used for typing the general text.
3. PREPARATION FORMAT
3.1 Cover Page - A specimen copy of the cover page of thesis is given in Appendix-
A.
3.2 Inner Cover Page - A specimen copy of the inner cover page of thesis is given in
Appendix-B.
3.3 Dedication - A specimen copy is given in Appendix-C.
3.4 Candidate’s Declaration – A specimen copy of Declaration certificate is given in
Appendix-D.
3.5 Certificate of the Guide – A specimen copy of Title page of certificate is given in
Appendix-E. The certificate shall carry the Guide’s signature and shall be
followed by the Guide’s name, academic designation department etc.
3.6 Acknowledgment – A specimen copy of Acknowledgement certificate is given in
Appendix-F.
3.7 List of Publications out of thesis –A specimen copy of the list of publication out
of thesis is given in Appendix-G.
3.8 Abstract – Abstract should be one or 2 pages synopsis of the thesis typed in one
and a half line spacing, Font Style Times new Roman and Font Size 12. A
specimen copy abstract of the thesis is given in Appendix-H.

3.9 Table of contents – The table of contents should list all material following it as
well as and material which precedes it. One and a half spacing should be adopted
for typing the matter under this head. A specimen copy of the Table of Contents is
given in Appendix-I
3.10 List of Tables – The list should use exactly the same captions as they appear
above the tables in the text. One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing
the matter under this head. A specimen copy of the list of Tables is given in
Appendix-J.
3.11 List of Figures – The list should use exactly the same captions as they appear
below the figures in the text. One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing
the matter under this head. A specimen copy of the List of Figures is given in
Appendix-K.
3.12 List of photographs –A specimen copy of the List of photographs is given in
Appendix-L.
3.13 Body of the thesis - The chapters may be broadly divided into 5 parts (i)
Introductory chapter including over view of the concerned area and organization
of the thesis (ii) Literature review (iii) Scope and objective, methodology of the
thesis (iv) Chapters developing the main theme of the thesis work (v) Conclusion
and future scope of work.
The main text will be divided into several chapters and each chapter may be
further divided into several divisions and sub-divisions.
• The chapter title is the first-order heading. A chapter may be divided into section
each of which has a section title (second-order heading). For example, in Chapter
3, the sections will be numbered 3.1, 3.2, etc. If at all possible do not further
subdivide a section.
• Use subsections (third-order headings) only if unavoidable. For instance, in
section 3.2, the subsections will be numbered 3.2.1, 3.2.2, etc. Do not further
subdivide beyond this point For example, subsection 3.2.2 may not be further
divided into sub-subsections 3.2.2.1, 3.2.2.2 etc.
• Tables and figures in a chapter should be placed in the immediate vicinity of the
reference where they are cited.
• Footnotes should be used sparingly. They should be typed single space and placed
directly underneath in the very same page, which refers to the material they
annotate.
