Introduction: for the past past four years, I have been actively involved as an extension Agent
lead in Loryb & DP ventures ltd Zaria, which is a private limited liability company focused on
promoting the principles and practices of sustainable agriculture, food security and defense.

Brief Background

I would love to tell you about myself. My name is Adekunle Joseph, a graduate of Ahmadu Bello
University, Zaria. Also a Masters Degree holder in English & Literary Studies from the same
University. I have the tenacity to adapt to new trends and this trait is shown in my diversity of
acquiring knowledge in relevant fields. I had been teaching English & Literature at upper
primary and Senior secondary. I have been preparing students/pupils for WAEC & Common
Entrance, for ten years imparting knowledge and skill to future leaders. However, I got a drive to
expand my horizon; I delved into agriculture in 2018, specifically in agricultural extension,
because of the rising demand of sustainable agriculture and the eradication of micotoxin and
wrong agricultural practice. With the passion to train small holder farmer on the improved
climate smart agriculture, I was given the position as the team lead to motivate the rest of the
team to actualize the end goal, which is producing clean and good grains to the masses. The
following are training and seminars I attended in agriculture extension:

1. Value seed & AGRA seminar

2. Technoserve & Fevick Resources seminar on GAP, PHH, CSA & Business Marketing
3. Risk Management
4. IDH & Technoserve Seminar
5. Food safety management Training

Imperatively, there is a wide gap in the value chain of agriculture, it exist between the small
holder farmer and SMEs. However the role of agric extension with the right practice is made
readily available to bridge the gap between the small holder farmer & aggregators in ensuring
good agricultural practice as a way of mitigating against aflatoxin, fumonisin, aluminium and
other micotoxin.

The drive behind this is backed by certifications from relevant field;

1. BA Hon: English & Literary Studies

2. Masters Degree English & Literary Studies
3. Diploma Certificate in Procurement & Logistics
4. Food Safety Management system Certified
5. Risk Management Certificate
6. Warehouse Certificate
7. Asset Management Certificate
8. Warehouse Scenario Certificate
9. Procurement certificate
10. Fleet management certificate

Having considered the aforementioned, the knowledge would go to waste, if investment initiative
is not supported. Hence, at this juncture once given the grant, I would be able to utilize it in
ensuring more small holder farmers are enlightened and equipped with the right practice of farm
mechanization and a way of improving life expectancy and standard of living of rural farmers.
Once granted the following are what it will engineer:

1. Reaching out to more remote farmers for sensitization

2. Obtain more materials for teaching the farmers
3. Motivate the purpose of the initiative
4. Obtain more experience in extension farming
5. Also helps in checkmating wrong agricultural practices
6. Improve crop yield among small holder farmers
Initiative implementation

Problem Analysis High level of micotoxin in grains, affects infants, children and
adults. Going by the traceability scheme, it is dictated that the
procedures of drying grains, by small holder farmer is not healthy,
the use of “Buka” system is what leads to contaminants infestation,
along with the drying method on tar roads, lead to exposure to
carbonmonoxide and other dangerous elements. It is predicated on
the watch that the drying method strongly recommended is solar
dryer and grains should not be stacked on bare floor, rather on
tarpaulins and stacked on pallets far away from the walls, to avoid
molds infestation.
Invariably, lots of small holder farmers in remote communities are
not aware of the dangers of these wrong practices to health and
grains.
Project goal and 1. To sensitize 500 farmers on good agronomic Practice
objective 2. To ensure food production is safe for consumption at rural
level
3. To improve the standard of living of small holder farmer
4. To sentisitize small holder farmers on climate smart
agriculture

Key 1. Increase knowledge to the farmers, through mobilization and

activities/milestone trainings on key topics that pertain to farm practices and
climate smart agriculture
2. Technical advice and dissemination of current trends in
improving crop yield and soil testing and rotation of crops
3. Also to organize key topics relating to farmers centralization
into a unit, which would help in fostering unity, profit
making, business expansion and an easy way of
disseminating information to the farmers
4. Motivate the farmers intrinsic & entrinsic towards high yield
performance.
5. Also suggest a healthy practice towards the standard way of
life.
6. Improve communal living

SCOPE

Intended The small holder farmers and the homestead at soba local government
beneficiaries area of Kaduna state, a data base of 500 rural farmers and information
of farm activities and the designated input for each farmer.

Risk & Risk impacting cost

Mitigation Inflation cost
actions Risk impacting schedule
Risk impacting performance
Control risk to all.
The risk impacting cost is all encompassing, varies from transport
increase due to lack of fuel, affects the cost price, and the venue for the
sensitization is far, which attracts higher fees. However, the schedule
plan for each visit is impeded by the unavoidable absence of some
farmers at the time of the training which requires we reschedule to
another date, also not forgetting the challenges of security threat in the
north, baring that in mind we limit the number of extension agents
going to the farm. A monitoring and evaluation plan is put in place to
monitor the progress of the training and the challenges incurred and
ways of handling them per period.
Sustainability the concept sustainable agriculture to grassroot farmers, is an initiative
plan with the motto to improve the standard of living of small holder
farmers and to also initiate a better farming practice towards the
sustainability of value chain in rural communities.
The project can be successful with the required resources, such as
1.Extension service delivery
2. farm inputs such as fertilizers, seeds
3. training documents
4. logistics
5. public awareness through media
Hence, the ways in which this initiative can be successful, is if this
grant is given, as it stands we have partners such as tecnoserve, IDH,
Loryb & DP Ventures, Fevick Resources, who have keen interest in
ensuring the small holder farmers are abreast with the required
knowledge and skill of agricultural advancement. Once, this initiative
is forth and running, there is already a structure of man power and
training models that will facilitate this exercise.
public awareness Mobilisation of farmers, through the team leaders by Text messages,
& Dissemination calls and physical visitation on when the trainings should be initiated.
Also, awareness on this initiative be done through campaign strategies,
and whatsapp and facebook awareness.

Gender and Gender friendly approach, the farmers are both male & Female.
Social inclusion Charged to include 40% female participate due to the strict Northern
practice and traditions. It is also a socially intensive program that
promotes socialization and opportunities to both gender.
