I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a) identify the names of musical instruments and their classification;
b) appreciate the sound produced by the Mindanao musical instruments by
playing; and
c) create musical instruments using improvised materials.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: The Musical instruments and other Sound Sources of Representative
Music Selections from Mindanao.
Reference: Music and Arts - Grade 7. Learner’s Module. First Edition.
Materials: Visual aids, Slide decks, Chalkboard and chalk.

instruments of Mindanao.

First, let’s arrange the jumbled words of the


classifications of instruments.

which is Aerophone, Chordophone,
Idiophone and Membranophone invented
by Erich Hornbostel Sach.

Now, I will group you into four groups. In


each group, there are four representatives.
The group 1 will classify if the given
pictures are aerophone instruments. The
group 2 will classify if the given pictures
are chordophone instruments. The group 3
will classify if the given pictures are
idiophone instruments and lastly the group
4 will classify if the given pictures are
membranophone instruments. Let’s start!

flute in most Indonesian language and it is

The first chordophone instrument of the


bamboo ensemble is the Serongagandi
(Maranaw bamboo zither). What is
Serongagandi?
It is a guitar like made of bamboo. Two
chords are slit loose side from the outer
skin skin fibers of the bamboo under the 2
chords that serves as resounding holes

The first instrument of the idiophone


instruments is Gabbang. What is Gabbang?

It is made of bamboo with either plain or


more ornate designs. It has dye-painted
handles with accompanying bamboo

Next is the Kulintang. What is kulintang? It is a row of small, horizontally laid gong
that functions melodically ma’am.

Moving on, the last instrument is the


Dabakan which is a membranophone
instrument. What is the Dabakan class? It is a single-headed Philippine Drum,
primarily used as a supportive instrument
in the kulintang ensemble ma’am.
