The Social
Media
Social Networking
The term social networking refers to the use of internet-
based social media sites to stay connected with friends,
family, colleagues, customers, or clients. Social
networking can have a social purpose, a business purpose,
or both, through sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn,
and Instagram. Social networking is also a significant
base for marketers seeking to engage customers. Facebook
remains the largest and most popular social network, with
2.91 billion people using the platform on a monthly
basis, as of Dec. 31, 2021.

What is
Social Media?
What is Software?

Social media is the future of communication, a

countless collection of internet-based tools and
platforms that increase and enhance the sharing of
information. The new form of media makes the
transfer of text, photos, audio, video and

Using Social Media Responsibly – Platforms such as Facebook, IG
and Twitter are a part of everyday life. Used well, they can add
to your learning experience. But used poorly, they can cause
lasting damage to you and others. Whichever social media tool you
are using, stick to these principles:

• Think about your privacy, but remember, “private” settings don’t

prevent content from being downloaded

• Think about how you use of social media projects your image to
others.
Viral on Social Media to become viral on social media
means to become very popular in a very short span of
time through a process of sharing such viral content
on the internet. Anything could go viral, such as
social media posts, videos, stories, and images.
There are positive and negative aspects of becoming
Viral. On the other hand, becoming viral can help
promote cause or ideas. Moreover, it can also defame
and demoralize people who are victims of cyber
bullying specially when they become targets of
criticisms that have gone viral

Digital
Footprint
Digital Footprint
A digital footprint – sometimes called a digital
shadow or an electronic footprint – refers to the
trail of data you leave when using the internet.
It includes websites you visit, emails you send,
and information you submit online. A digital
footprint can be used to track a person’s online
activities and devices. Internet users create
their digital footprint either actively or
passively.
Digital Footprint
Being aware of our digital footprints is
very important, because it has a lot to
do with privacy issues. Every time we
share, post, like or comment on social
media, we leave traces of these
activities in the servers we communicate
with most of the time, these activities
are saved there for a very long time.
Digital Footprint

A good Example of the positive use of our

digital footprint is a feature on
Facebook called Memories. This feature
uses our digital footprint preserved on
Facebook and display these memories for
your viewing only, providing you with an
option to share them with your friends.
Digital Footprint
Depending on the settings we put on our
web browser in our smartphones or in our
computers, we may be allowing our
browsers to constantly collect vital
information such as our location, our
habits, our tastes and likes, and our
behavior. All of these compose our
digital footprints.
